In your network and sharing centre does it say "manage wireless networks" in the top left?

Did searching bring up the "manage wireless networks"? The network 2 thing is usually because it thinks you are already connected to the network. You need to remove all saved wireless connections in "manage wireless networks" then try connecting to the network again using the connect to an existing network option and using the key from the router setup screen.

in manage wireless networks, it says wireless is not currently enabled. When I click Add, I get a message "Windows wireless service is not running"

Will it let you remove any networks listed and saved there? Click on any there and select remove.

(got to go out now but if no one else can help in meantime I will try later).
