I am in my early 40s and never have nor would consider buying a property. Am much more comfortable with renting.
If I had not bought in '93 when I did, I would be fed up now as I could only afford to rent a room not a flat . Flats near me would cost me 70 % of my take home pay .0 -
21 and other half 27. In those days you couldn't have a morrtgage until you were 21.0

Bought at 27 a month before my 28th birthday. That was 2 years ago now. Worked 2 jobs and saved hard to pay off all my debts and save for a deposit. It took a few years, but I had to do it to make sure the repayments were affordable on one salary as I was buying on my own. No help with deposit from bank of mum n dad, but living at home with my dad charging me reasonable rent/bills allowed me to life frugally and save as much as I could.
Worth all the hard graft, and I would do it again if I was to go back to my lightbulb moment at 24.
I have had a lodger for the first 12 months, which was fun. Had a girlfriend move in for 6 months, which was also fun but involved more compromise than I'm used to. Have spent the last 6 months here on my own and never been so happy and relaxed in my own space. Best thing I did buying on my own.This is WAY more fun than monopoly.0 -

I am nowhere near being fed up of renting, I like the convenience of being flexible in where I choose to live. My parents bought property from 60's to 90's. But one job loss, followed by separations left them with a repossession and loss of any moneys they had put into buying the property. There is no chance of my parents ever buying property again nor incentive.
No mortgage company would want to take me on with my annual income, even with my partners combined, but as we have no desires or urges to buy a property, there is no reason for us to worry about it. Maybe if I win a rollover I might consider buying, but not until.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Just about to buy our 1st, me and OH just turned 30. However, it's only because of a chance bargain - otherwise we would be waiting a few more years. I'd rather rent in a nicer area, than buy in an area that's less safe (which is all we can afford at 'normal' prices). I've lived in those 'less safe' areas as a student, and the peace of mind is worth more to me!0
