although you have to source your own phone ( not too hard through Ebay) get yourself a o2 online ( genie ) simcard costs £5-£10 put 15 pounds on it a month and get 300 free texts anytime and 150 off peak minutes x- network + your £15 quid credit at a good rate during the day to o2 and landlines. I have never run out of minutes texts or credit in a month yet!! just be careful whilst abroad very very expensive ( apparently that set to change though )
cheers
£180 a year on payg,not really money saving.:D0 -
Virgin Mobile currently have a great deal on the Nokia 1112 PAYG - it's £27.98 (£24.99 + £2.99 delivery) but comes with airtime vouchers of 200 free minutes to any UK network worth £28.
BUT if you already have a SIM card you can deduct £10 off that price, making it £17.98 for the phone, including delivery. It's a bit complicated but to order online without a SIM card, logon with your Virgin account, choose "Your rewards with Red" & then pick the "Buy A Phone" option at the bottom of the page or ring the orderline (only 10p for however long you talk if you're on Virgin) & speak to a person.
I had a spare SIM from a Virgin giveaway last year which came preloaded with £5 credit so have managed to grab a real bargain for a friend!
Terms & conditions apply to the vouchers - the airtime comes as two 100 min vouchers, which will run concurrently & have to be used up within a month of being activated. The first must be activated by the end of June (ie so if you start the first on 1st June, it will run out end of June & the second can be started 1st July, expiring 31st July. I don't think it matters which day of the month you activate them - they still last a whole month).0 -
Hi If i want to check out to who the sim card is registered. I use "http://www.icstis.org.uk/" (without the quotes). This will tell you the type of service the number is on, and cost per minute etc. Or just service providor , if that`s all they have. I was on Easy Mobile which i miss dearly. They offered me a move to Fresh (carfonewarehouse).Which seems good enough.
It seems that if anyone wants to start up a new network. They use TMobile`s system network. Virgin used it to. As far as i know they still do. As do Fresh,Tesco, and i suspect more. So you may not need to unlock the phone. I`v never tried my Tesco sim in a TMobile phone to see. I assume it will0 -
The http://www.icstis.org.uk/ part is correct. I tried a Tesco sim in a phone locked to TMobile. It would not work
. I then went back on icstis It came up with Tesco are using 02. So its still a good place to go provided you type in the correct number:rolleyes:

I think you will find unlocking on another post. I just went looking for the Nokia free unlocking code calculator. You have to be careful on the net. Free unlocking can be a scam. Hope i was some help.0

Can this phone be unlocked for free?
i'm also trying to find this out!
please let me know if you manage to do it!
(this query refers to the Alcatel OT-230 mobile currently on the orange network).
I'm now also trying to find out if it's possible to unlock the Acatel OT E225 currently locked to T-mobile.
Can anyone help please?0 -
In answer to a couple of various queries posted by several people...
1 I used to work for O2 upto about10 months ago. I can confirm that Tesco is on O2 and not T-mobile. Also, 80% of the contract phones were still issued unlocked. The ones that were locked tended to be blackberries and xdas etc. Although some regular phones were locked also. I think one of the Nokia Ns was but can't remember which. Can't comment on O2 PAYG as worked in the contracts side of things.
2 I've been on T mobile since one 2 one so depending on how early the phone was, it may not be locked as I don't think one 2 one locked theirs (none of mine were). The 1st locked phone I ever got was about a year after T mobile bought them.
3 Free unlocking is a bit of a scam. Not all phones will unlock with a code. I know Nokias certainly do unlock with a code and Sony ericssons definitely don't. After that I guess its google and see. However I have known someone who tried to download a "free" code for a Nokia and get asked for cash. Prob better off just going to a shop or market stall.

There is an unlocking thread on this website, with instructions of legitimate sites to help you unlock a phone, and also some very very helpful regulars who are willing to help anyone that gets stuck with a specific phone (Browntoa came to my aid last year!). It is well worth looking at that thread as it will list several phones that cannot be unlocked, and there is bound to be someone who knows the answer if you can't see the model listed that you need to unlock. Unfortunately, I don't know how to post the link.....0

Even if Virgin use T-Mobile network I highly doubt T-Mobile simcard will work.
Each operator has a different code. And so each simcard has one aswell (MNC + MCC I thinks it's called). So by only allowing on code they can block all others.0 -

Hey thanks Splashwellykid for this tip - have just replaced my old Nokia 3310 with a Nokia 1112 for 14.99 plus 2.99 delivery (less quidco cashback).
Cheers!:beer:0
