110frankie - yes journalists can twist the truth! ( to be nice), but we actually saw what was happening, no amount of editing or spin could have changed that.

That's true...but don't forget they had four months of film, and we only a tiny proportion of it. It could be (unlikely, I know) that we saw ALL the incidents of unacceptable behaviour, and the rest of the time the staff did exactly what they should be doing.

I have to say my butchers is very good - you can see out the back although you can't see the freezers and fridges. The meat has no added water in it because it comes from local farms and the only stop it makes enroute is to be slaughtered. You can even ask which farm his chickens come from and he'll tell you, and he can tell you all about each pig and calf and lamb that ends up in the counter down to it's date of birth and number. I've walked into butchers before and not felt comfortable about how they handle the food and walked out, but our little village butchers (who also has queues into the street every saturday) I know I can trust what I buy and if I ask for "whatever you have in that's GREAT" I know that whether it's pork, or venison or beef etc it'll be the most delishious!

Anyway I'm getting carried away.... :rotfl:

I say it doesn't pay to examine what you eat too closely. Was veggie for 14 years but not anymore.

Can anyone remember the programme about 'Maggot Pete', might not be his real name (?) but he was washing the dye that marked chicken as unfit for human consumption off the chickens and selling them to the supermarkets?

I have worked in pub kitchens and for a company that cleans industrial kitchens and my brother and sister in law have got 48 years working for the same Morrisons store between them! Also other sister used to work for Sainsbury's. Watching the programme, nothing surprised me.

I figure that the best we can do is keep informed (excellent MoneySavingExpert) and be savvy and be hygienic when preparing your own food.

There is a scene in the Royle Family where Dave says to Barbara that he will eat the sausages that are a week past their sell by date 'cause he's 'not bothered about that kind of thing' LOL Also in Fawlty Towers, in the Basil the Rat episode, there is the whole fuss with the poisoned veal, very funny.

  • I watched this too and I could not believe what was going on. I am so glad that I don't buy food from the counters.

I'm really going to have to consider buying meat from the local butchers instead even if it costs more. You can't put a price on your health though.
