a few years back ( it was national news)
a company was buying the condemed chickens and turkeys and bleaching the meat to get rid of the green etc... and was then either making or selling the meat on..and it was in chciken nuggets...etc.. and was being sold to local authorities supermarkets and resturants....
does anyone else remember this? they showed the warehouse where the condemmed meat was... and i mean   just piles of rotting carcuses everywhere on the floors etc.....
since then i think condemmed chicken etc which is for animal food only has got to be dyed....so it can not enter into the human food chain....alegidleyWork to live= not live to work0 -

and all the news that we see and hear..... justs confirms my thoughts.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
This is from the BBC Wales website today. Asda fined £80,000 for out of date food in Wales. Some lamb chops were 31 days past their use by date!!! 58 items of food should not have not been on sale.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/6684295.stm
I do think though that this practice does go on in all types of food companies, large and small, its up to the individuals on the ground floor and the managers to check up that safety procedures are being carried out.
With an individually managed and owned shop you as the consumer knows who is responsible and the buck stops with them. If its their own store they will be working hard to maintain a good reputation and thus I feel this is so much better for the consumer.

Yes your absolutely rigtht but the practice of dying condemned carcases was already in place at the time hence the bleaching process.COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »a few years back ( it was national news)

I'm not defending the supermarkets, but surely you know if meat is off when you unwrap it. I binned £6 worth of chicken the other day that was 2 days within it's sell by date because it stunk.
It looked to me very much like the woman who had worked in Tescos for 9 years made her own rules up, and happened to be training staff which ment they got her bad habits. The butcher at Sainsury's had been there forever too. The other people were cutting corners out of damn laziness; i mean how long does it really take to stick a thermometer in a chicken? The store manager never condoned items being out of the chiller for more than 30 mins, he agreed it was difficult to to comply with but commented 'at least it's cold this time of year' I think they were trying to stitch him up to be honest.
The supermarket's crime here, is that they don't supervise their staff properly. Perhaps food prep areas should be filmed.
A few bad apples rots the entire barrel is they aren't plucked out quickly. Seemed that was what was happening with their staff."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." I bought some mozzerella cheese that was grated in a packet form our local Sainsburys store. It ws in date, but had gone mouldy. The packaging must have been damaged somehow. Anyway. DH took it back and they were very good. Replaced it, and gave him £5 voucher :-) The children said perhaps we should go and look out all the stuff that is off or mouldy looking and get more vouchers lol.0

My husband went into Morrisons today, and noticed at the meat & fish counters that they staff were taking the temperatures in obvious view of the customers!!0
