I saw your post yesterday and it certainly seemed to work fine. I might try another 10 tomorrow - but there is no SEL for an offer on 10 in my Asda so I thought I'd get charged full price for the extra 4. Its all a bit 'fluid'.ELITE 5:2

Squillion,
I feel for you. My mum is a total hypochondriac, glass half empty person, and my advice would be to ask your DW if maybe it would be better to go to her mum once she's out of hospital in a couple of weeks. She may need more help then! HTH0 -

My Asda only has the 6 for £3 SEL - nothing about an offer on 10. Are they scanning at 10 for £4 like the Mullers were ? TIA.
Yes same in my local too, but it is 10 for £4 it's just not advertised for some reason.
I always buy in 10.We're just happy to have a home, a family and our health. Whatever else is just added and it fits.

Squills - my mum died 31 years ago, but I can tell you now, if my father had been allowed to tell me she was ill (she wouldn't let him) I would have moved heaven and earth, and even a bit of hell, to get to her side. She was my mum and I needed to be with her. Simple. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

If your DW reads this thread, you are gonna need an almighty sized doghouse:Dsquilliondollarbaby wrote: »I'm a bit wobbly at the thought of all the money going out for no good reason but I'm sure a nice cold bottle of Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand would steady those jelly legs

We just had a phone call from my BIL: my MIL (80) has had a small stroke and is in hospital for 2 weeks for observation, wife's on the phone right now speaking to her. Her whole family has always been highly hypochondriac, always exaggerating every slight medical problem and panicking over unimportant stuff like sniffles or a temperature.
Now I know a stroke is not minor but this one sounds very slight. She's already talking of flying out this weekend (in Europe) and I'm already thinking: big probably unnecessary expense because the extent of the problem has not been established.
I take it that (as usual) I am hopelessy wrong to even think of mentioning that to my wife, after all these years I am about on the point of realising you're supposed to be sympathetic, listen and sod the expense?
Is that about right? Advice please. What should be my reaction and what is my role?
No sympathy needed as it's my MIL not some relation.
Evening all, RL has kept me away over the weekend, but I've just tuned in to catch up and saw this.
Squills, as you know I live in a similar family situation to you. I've always had the thought in the back of my mind throughout our marriage that someday we would just need to grab our passports and head for the airport - some day that day will probably come. Having said that, I've also got an elderly relative I do some caring for who has had a stroke, and they come in a really broad spectrum of severity.
My own take on the situation for what it's worth is
a) Be really kind and understanding towards your wife, she'll probably feel awful about not being there and rather helpless.
b) Now is not a good moment to quibble about expense.
c) I'd personally suggest to your wife that the best thing is not to swamp the MIL and the family over there at this stage, especially as you don't know exactly what is what, but you completely understand if she wants to go over there and you will stay at home and look after the kids. Give her lots of moral support throughout.
Obviously when you have a better understanding of the situation you'll be able to reevaluate things.
My thoughts for what they are worth. Sending you best wishes and I hope things turn out to be not too bad for you all. Best wishes, Lutz xHope is not a strategy.0 -
