I take it that (as usual) I am hopelessy wrong to even think of mentioning that to my wife, after all these years I am about on the point of realising you're supposed to be sympathetic, listen and sod the expense?

Is that about right? Advice please. What should be my reaction and what is my role?

No sympathy needed as it's my MIL not some relation.

I am often of the opinion, if in doubt.....do nothing.
In this case that is your wifes decision, but the cost could be prohibitive as last minute flights are known to be costly.
Can we source some if they are needed....where would she have to fly to/from??

Yep she's still on the phone but just came down to tap in on the flight sites herself, looks like I'll be holding the fort with the 3 kids this weekend (there's always a silver lining might get some peace :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:)

No sympathy needed as it's my MIL not some relation.

Gosh a hard one, been here sort of , not out of the country but the same otherwise, MIL had stroke and the whole family went into melt down but she still smokes like a chimney and does nothing to help herself I feel that they as a family make it worse and so find it hard to be sympathetic on the other hand if it was my mam I would be on the plane tonight and sod any costs. so I would say support your DW as she will be the one to live with the decision if she didn't go and it turned wrong.

I even got it included free of charge as part of my recent deal with them, I just may have to remind her to ring off as the hour approaches as that's when you have to pay if you go over 60 mins.

I think so yes! can't begin to tell you how many I have now....

Best for her to go if she is wanting to because if she didnt because of you and something happened
