Finally, we do have proof that this is happening as their job seekers have been changed stating that they have to find full-time work

And??? You have not given any real reason for your questions. Job Seekers are expected to look for full-time work and not just limit themselves to part-time work. They are free to take up part-time work if they like.

And???

Yes but it doesn't say they have to leave their children unattended does it.

The other point is that these people are looking for work, part-time, which would take them out of the benefit system. How is it the dwp job to tell people that they MUST work full-time. Or do the unemployed not have the same human rights as the employed?
How many of you are working part-time?

I don't think you are employed by the CAB at all, a volunteer in training possibly.

I think you need to have a good read re JSA on Advisernet, particularly around reasonable restrictritions on availability for work.

There is no law that says they can! That's the point!
What a stupid statement.

If you want free money from the state (taxpayers) you go with what they require.

Is it only me that is concerned (no pun intended vs the OP) that an alleged CAB employee is coming onto an anonymous forum asking questions about the 'law'.
Or do the unemployed not have the same human rights as the employed?

And this just about takes the biscuit - !!!!!! has human rights got to do with whether the state pay you JSA whilst you're Job Seeking
I have heard that JCP are telling job seekers who have children that once the child reaches 14 that they must look for full- time work between 8am - 8pm. They are saying that the law states that a child reaches 14 they can be left alone!
This is not true and would be up to the parent to decide depending on the child, I am complaining evidence of this malpractice and if anyone out there who has been told the same, I would like to hear for you.
Only if you want to claim Jobseekers' Allowance.:)

And anyway, be realistic, you wouldn't be working all day every day between 8 and 8, would you??

I think to expect a parent of a fourteen year old who wants public money to support them whilst they are job seeking, to seek full time work is not an unreasonable requirement.

Don't know why I bothered posting, given the responses!
1) I am not unemployed
2) I work for CAB
3) we are getting enquiries about this subject and I wanted to see how widespread it is.
4) there is no law regarding children being left alone
5) if child is left alone and something happens to them, then parent/s can be prosecuted with neglect and SS appointed.
6) it is not the role of JCP to state that there is a law that 14+ can be left alone - there is no such law
7) JCP giving out wrong information that can have serious repercussions for child/ parents.
8) JCP threatening parents with benefit sanctions if they do not take full-time job because of child care issues!
9) Police confirm that they can and do prosecute parents!

Good to see the sheep following the Tory propaganda:(

I think it's great that you are trying to find out what the rules actually are but am a bit disappointed at your attitude to it.

As someone who works in LA's we have a good working relationship with CAB and support our customers through it. However, you seem to have taken the customer at their word and I can't see that you have contacted JCP to confirm this? I accept that you advocate on behalf of your clients but this does seem a little adversarial to say the least.

I am not saying that an advisor hasn't said that but you seem to be convinced that they have. Without empirical evidence, it becomes a "he said, she said" and I would hope that as you have gone as far as to contact the Police, you would have asked to speak to a supervisor at the JCP?

I doubt it very much. The vast majority of part time workers claim tax credits of some kind or the other - or perhaps you think that doesn't count?

Give us a link to the law that says that 19 year olds can be left home alone and you might be on firmer ground.
