The JCP cant make anyone work, however they can decide not to pay JSA, so if you dont want to work, thats fine, you just wont get any money.

The point I am making is that JCP are saying its the law! When in fact it isn't! I have checked with the police and they say they can prosecute Anyone who leaves a child (-17yrs) if that child is left a.one and something happens to them! My point is that it is not up to JCP to make up the law!

What has the law got to do with anything? Of course you are responsible for your children's welfare. If you are working, it is your responsibility to ensure the children have appropriate supervision.

As to entitlement to benefits - there is no reason why parents should be supported by the state until a child reaches the age of 21. The state is free to suggest that benefits are not payable to parents who do not job seek once their children reach the age of 14. In fact, many would suggest this age is overly generous.

That's carp, for a start. Maybe you should direct the police officer that you spoke to here: https://www.gov.uk/law-on-leaving-your-child-home-alone

And if the Govenment changes the law and JCP merely implement it (which is what usually happens), what happens to your campaign then?

Don't be daft - 16 year olds can marry and join the army, much less be left alone!

I'm possibly one of the worst molly-coddling mothers around, but if a child gets to 14, and is incapable of being left alone while a parent works (unless there is an actual disability), then there is an issue with parenting. I have a 13 year old, who is hardly an angel, but I know I could safely leave him, if needed, for work and he could be trusted to 1)Not burn down the house (microwave meals are a godsend) 2)Not invite half the neighbourhood round to wreck the house, 3)Not play with knives etc, etc. As far as I'm aware, the law only comes into force if you knowingly put a child at risk, ie, lock them under the stairs with a bottle of prescription pills and a carving knife for entertainment.

I think it's 12 under the new credit system that parents are expected to work 35 hours, perhaps someone can confirm or clarify.

It rather sounds like someone might be completely misunderstanding what someone else has said or is failing to appreciate that an individual sometimes doesn't know what they're talking about and is not speaking with any authority.
