Money Grabbing Vet!!!

Edit to add: when the_flip_side said "created a website" I guess he/she meant "created a thread", not being au fait with internet terms as they explained above.
Perfectly understandable when not clear on the terminology, hadn't thought of that and of course I don't think it was a deliberate exaggaration or anything. Was surprised that reference was made to this thread at all but I suppose that might also be understandable, emotions run high in these situations where both parties are under incredible stress. Depends on the context on which it was presented I suppose as well, just providing as much background material as possible or specifically demonstrating the other party is deliberately assissinating their character. How laudible referencing the thread is depends on what was trying to be achieved by doing so."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

But it is still quite unclear what happened around this crucial bit of the emergency/pain relief treatment that apparently could have been paid up front.
Yes, I'm sure the op would have been very distressed so communication COULD have been less than perfect. However, I believe the vet should have suggested that the dog was made comfortable (he was the professional one)with pain relief and possibly a temporary splint or support if they could not reach an agreement over the fee. Surely that would not have exceeded £60?
It is possible that the vet did offer this, but so far has not clarified this point.0 -
1. this is my first time on a forum, terms such as threads, op etc are very new, re the website thing, i suspect it probably wasn't even considered by the RCVS. my apologies to marting lewis who ever he is, what does op stand for any way, thanks for the advise by the way superscaper
2. i think it says everything, i did not refuse to treat daisy, unfortunately daisy did not get pain relief but that was not because of my actions in my opinion0 -

1. We all had a first time learning the terms. Unfortunately some of us (me included) fall into habits of taking for granted some terms.
Chat forum: area of website for the chat/forum posts
Boards: the sections for different things the forum is split into, eg we're currently in the consumer vent board
Threads: the topics posted within the boards (in this case the ...vet thread, no need to reemphasise the inflammatory thread title)
Posts: well obviously the individual posts people make
OP: Original Post/Poster, just quick shorthand to refer to the original post or refer to the person who made that post, quicker than typing their name.
Martin Lewis: the guy who created this site, he IS the money saving expert (he gets around on TV quite a bit), I think you'll find the site really quite useful and I hope this thread which I can understand may be upsetting for you doesn't put you off what is a great site.
2. It's unfortunate Daisy didn't get pain relief and I imagine there was no "evil dooer" here, just a sad case of miscommunication and high emotion. Each side will have their own perspective/interpretation of what happened and they genuinely believed it happened that way. There's certainly enough fables on no absolute truth just perspective."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

fair comments skyscaper and i appreciate the open mind, for the record the consult involved a full clinical exam, what i considered to be an appropriate initial treatment plan was outlined to the owners which centred around stabilisation and included hospitalisation, pain relief and xrs under sedation, an estimate of 150-170 pds was given. payment at the time of treatment was requested which was in my opinion misinterpreted by the owner as meaning up front. after that things deteriorated, the consult ended abruptly and the owner left with the dog.0

The guy runs a business. To make moolahh! Ok, so he has responsibility to a injured animal but he still has to make money.
I cannot understand the people who are whingeing like daddies little girls about the need for everyone else to be responsible for their issues. I.e my dog gets injured, i cant pay, therefore its the business/vets fault etc for dog pain.
Rubbish!
This is same mentality that parents have about violent teenagers. i.e teenager/kid attacks or kills another child then the parent flares up with 'its the school/tv/society/nanny state/peer pressure/gang cultures fault.
If you cant raise your children then dont have them. Period.
If you cant look after a pet then dont have them. Period.0 -
There,s no point arguing the score now!.Personally I would have gone to the papers about you.
The OP stated they offered you £60 now and the rest in a few days!.
Nobody carries that sort of money around unless they have a credit card.
Personally I have pet insurance and Im on benefits, operations for dogs can cost thousands of pounds.
I think your receptionist is misinformed due to mismanagement informing the op to bring the £60 and soert the rest out with the vet.
It must be very difficult to switch of emotions to be calm to help animals in distress but to be in a caring profession one would expect a vet to have some type of empathy or compassion.0 -
In America the hospitals refuse you service if you dont have money or insurance.
You get the basics though.
Since we echoe what happens in the US with business/fashion/movies/attitudes and the fact that we are becoming the attackdogs of the United States it wont be long when even humans are relegated to being treated like injured dogs over'ere.
You read it here first.
Incidentally.....everyone......if the original poster had pet insurance then this whinge wouldnt of started.
Thank you.0 -

I once had to smack a hedgehog over the head with a hammer when it had been run over by a mindless moron, to put it out of misery. I could of taken it to a vet or rspca but I think the pain was too unbearable as it lay their bleeding so I put the poor mite out of its misery.
As for rabbits with that mitsomatosis or halitosis thing they get in the eyes well its curtains for them if a vet isnt around. RSPCA just send them to bunny heaven.0
