I notice the OP hasn't logged on under her username for a few days but maybe she would like to take a look at this article in our local paper:

    http://www.derbyshiretimes.co.uk/news/grassroots/reunited-after-decade-missing-1-4532583

Basically, a cat who went missing for 10 years - yes, that's right - 10 years - was reunited with his owner after the old woman he was living with died and he was handed to Cat Protection for rehoming.
Thanks to his microchip, he found his way back to his original owner.

This story, from our local weekly newspaper, is a couple of years old but I found it when looking for a more recent story of another cat who escaped during a home move and was also missing for 10 years.
Tigger was returned to his owner thanks to a vet checking for a microchip when he was caught as a stray.
This article was published on 31st October 2013.

Still not want to take this cat to be checked for a microchip, OP?

You owe it to the cat you've taken in and you owe it to his previous owners if they've had him microchipped.

Our Minnie cat disappeared 10 days ago and there is just no sign of her. I've posted flyers through doors in the whole neighbourhood, put posters all around the area, rang vets, Cats Protection etc. I think she may have got in a car or van and ended up who knows where (she is very nosy and adventurous).

I hope she has found a nice home but I'll always wonder where she is if she doesn't turn up. Meanwhile Gary cat is missing her, they used to play chase together and curl up to sleep side by side. Come home Minnie.

Hugs to you, don't give up hope. My cat went missing a while ago, posted a thread about it link. He turned up safe and sound :).

Both my cats are microchipped and wear collars.

She is chipped but won't wear a collar - would always come back without it. I was afraid she may harm herself trying to get it off, while she was out.

Mine are like that, keep getting them off. But if they look fed and cared for it shouldn't matter, a decent person will hand them over to a vet or animal charity who should scan them. Are you registered with Petlog? You can report your pet missing or stolen and they'll mark it as missing on the database. This then alerts the vet when they scan the pet, if you're premium as we are (one off payment of £15 per cat) they'll also send out an alert to vets within a 30 mile radius I think it is.

My cat came home on his own and has stayed close since, I'm sure your girl will turn up :). Keep looking around, calling her etc. Ask the postman to keep an eye out if you can, phone local rescues again and even not so local ones etc. everything helps :).

I have a horrible feeling this cat will never be scanned. :(

    I'd hate to disappoint you.

So don't read this bit. He has no chip. He is now vaxed, de-flead, wormed and will be chipped when we go back for his next vax in a couple of weeks.
I love how the fact I hadn;t got round to it and didn;t like being told how horrible I was, meant that I never intended to do anything and was just a hideous horrible person deserving of all manner of unpleasantness from keyboard warriors. I almost didn't bother with this update as so many of you were very nasty, but some of you were nice, so....

PS- i still don;t get what that other thread had to do with anything. Her dog wasn't chipped therefore would not have been sent back to her whether found and scanned or not.

The point is the anguish, heartbreak and despair that the owner of a beloved pet goes through when it goes missing. Although you think you've done a wonderful thing, until you've exhausted all attempts to find this cat's home, you could be the cause of such pain.

Edit: The secret writing is childish.

I'm pleased you finally got round to it, why would I be disappointed? It was still wrong for you to take so long though. What was it, 6 months? There's really no excuse for that.

Your lack of empathy towards a potential worried and heartbroken owner like poor sazzy, carer, building with lego and mumcoll is a tad disturbing, but I do hope this cat has a happy and long life with your family and that if he gets lost whoever finds him is more considerate than you.
