If the cat is a stray you arent stealing it.

I also found a cat at the side of the road where I live, a very busy road, just heard the wailing, thats 8 years or so ago now, she had been dumped out of a car we think.

My mum took her in and shes been happy ever since.

If you can give this cat a good life, do it.

Well, after I dropped DD at preschool today he was in the garden down the road and came over for a stroke, so i let him follow me home and let him in and gave him some milk and tuna (no cat food in house).

Next time give him a bowl of water to drink from (cats shouldn't be given milk they can't digest it)

I know lots of cats that have 'found' new owners and all seem happy just make sure he isn't chipped, get him a health check and enjoy your new pet. When I was a kid I named all my cats but my Dad just called them all 'cat'.

There is a cat that lives next door to me but goes in a least 3 houses down the street (mine included) he just doesn't seem to enjoy being in his own home (they do have 3 dogs). I do feel sorry for his owners they clearly care for him and get all the expensive of vets bills etc but he won't spend any time with them!

He refuses water! And I thought a bit of milk wouldn't hurt. If he lived here he would have to get used to water though!

He is very nervous inside. I have to keep a door or window open and he shoots out at almost any noise although not the phone. It will take some time to gain his trust inside I think.

You are right a bit of milk won't do him any harm but best not to give it very often. Lots of cats don't drink water out of a bowl at home, my doesn't he drinks from puddles or out of the toilet

Once you have cleared that he is a stray and make the decision to keep him I suggest you get a feliway diffuser to help him settle in.

Good luck and keep use posted with updates :)

You can buy cat milk for a treat at most supermarkets. I'd take him in get him settled and then get him scanned. Your most likely want to go the vets for a check up anyway and flea treatments etc if he been living outside.

As for your neighbour well years ago in another house a neighbour had a kitten and she locked it out for hours and always looked starved. We wanted to take it in and look after it and it loved our house. However my cat really hated it and it just wasn't going to work. We just fed it as often as we could.

My own cat was a stray sort of. Her mother was a stray as we had neighbours futher down the street who had tons of animals but neglected them all. One of their cat Snowball decided to live in my neighbours garden as it had lots of bushes and trees and rather wild as uncut for years. She was pregnant little did we know and decided to give birth in the garden as it was safe and protected under the trees. She had 3 kittens all survived my neighbour took one called fluff and we tried to rescue others but they where suspicious and happy in the garden with mum. We fed them and they had trees to sleep under and hunted pidgeons etc.

Snowball became pregnant again and had 3 more kittens. She left one of the kittens in our garden (am guessing she gave birth there or futher away as to protect from her other children TomTom and One-Eye(he was blind in one eye due to maybe infection from scratch). Anyway we managed to grab the kitten and bring it in and we have had Milly for 9 years now. I always thought guilty from taken away from her mother early but her mother Snowball sadly died when she was just a few months old when attacked by a dog in neighbours front garden. The first litter TomTom and One-Eye raised Fred & Ginger (2nd litter) and looked after them. We feed them for years but we moved home around 4 years ago. Sadly my neighbour told us that TomTom and Fred had gone missing and not been seen for a year. We had them neutered years ago by local cat protection but they couldn't rehome as they so feral.

I would take him in and give him a loving home if no owner found. He is more than likely going to die if not especially if he a boy who know more for fighting. Might end up having a cut and getting infected or ran over or attacked by dog. I'd rather think my cat was in a safe loving home if she went missing than dead.

Cat milk is better for them than milk, cats are lactose intolerant. It will take time for him to adjust but he will, its a bit strange being with a family, living outside, with another family.

One of my cats hid in my electrical cupboard for a week, she could squash herself into the smallest of spaces, it was 6 weeks before she stopped living in my spare bedroom. She now sleeps beside me at night. Cats are sensitive creatures and moving around can unsettle them.

Bit of chicken or tuna or even just some packet cooked ham for him, all cats like a treat of something, in a few months or less, I'm sure he'll be part of the family.

Thanks for the replies. He has come in a few times now and getting less nervous. He makes a fuss till I sit down so he can get on my lap :)

OH is not very happy but hasn't said to stop and DD is so happy to almost have a cat that I think he will relent.

I'm on my iPod so can't write much but so far so good.

He doesn't have fleas. I think the neighbour does that and brushes him as he always looks cared for. I realised today that he is the cat I used to see living under a tree on the corner when I moved here three years ago, so I wonder if someone died or moved away and he was just abandoned.

He is so affectionate and very much a lap cat so at some point he had a home. He is neutered too from what I can tell.

glad to hear CAT has adopted you and is settling in, I have recently been adopted - always been a dog person but tiggy tiger got dumped outside a local sanctuary (small mercies) and they posted his pic on their fb page - his face looked so sad and was say you are my new mum to me 2 weeks later in is curled up beside me on the bed with sally the cleptomaniac red setter cross next to him snoring away.
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.
