Apparently the distributor had problems with the t-shirts and they were anticipating many more in the WH Smith stores, but they didn't get there on time. Profuse apologies from them too."

Morning guys, we've received an email from Express Newspapers with the following info

We would like to assure readers who purchased the Sunday Express and were unable to claim their free Star Trek T-Shirt, that one will be sent one in the post immediately.
We apologise to any disappointed readers. We knew this would be a popular promotion and planned accordingly. Unfortunately, whilst we had plenty of stock to fulfil the promotion, there was an issue with our external distribution company’s distribution to a few stores who received significantly fewer units than we had stipulated. This was beyond the control of the retailers involved in this promotion.
If any reader purchased the Sunday Express on Sunday, 5 May, and was unable to claim their t-shirt, please could they call this hotline: 01277 725283 between 10am and 4pm or e-mail startrek@creativepathmedia.com by 4pm on Friday 10 May. They will need a copy of Sunday’s paper when they call.

i can confirm that this number works and they advise you to email them and they will send a address for you to send the voucher off to so you can claim you tshirt
  • What's the betting that the staff nabbed the t shirts for themselves before opening the shop lol

Do you have anything to back up your assertion that WHSmith staff took the shirts? (and that The Express are wrong in their explanation of what happened?)

Or was it just a banal comment.

In fairness they probably did. When I worked in Vicky wine back in the 90's the staff used to nick all the free gifts. It was a perk of the job :)

So, have we uncovered a wrongdoing or is it just posters making flippant remarks?

Well, I thought of those of you complaining on this thread when the offer was mentioned on Watchdog!

    Any updates?

Does anyone else find it ironic that the person sorting out the complaint has the surname 'Kirk'?
