Does it have your address on it?
I had a delivery from Amazon today. Came by courier as I'm a prime member. I signed for two parcels. Both were addressed to me. I was trying to remember what I ordered. I usuall order a lot, so forgetting what's arriving isn't unusual plus it was 7.30 am :o

So I opened it to find one parcel what I ordered yesterday. The other was a return of a digital camcorder from an Amazon France customer.

God knows how this happened as it was addressed to me, tracking ties into being delivered to me.

    Seems so. ;)
Yes I AM contacting amazon France to let them know of the mistake. Where do I stand if they try and charge me returns, the cost of the camcorder or if they fail to pick it up?

I'm not sure if this comes under unsolicited goods where you have protection from charges of they fail to collect etc.

I wouldn't incur postage charges, I'd ask them to arrange collection at a time that was convenient to you.

I'm not sure how they could charge you for the camcorder as they will not have an order from you to back up any invoice they might raise.

But I would make sure that all dealings with Amazon France is done via email/letter and that you are very clear in what you write and keep all copies of emails you've sent and received.

Years ago we ordered a home cinema set up, the speakers arrived but the dvd player had gone awol, they were in 2 separate boxes.

They sent another complete set (player and speakers) and when I said to the deleivery guy 'I've got a box like that to go back' he said 'no can do as I don't have a returns number'.
We contacted the company several times but they never bothered to collect the speakers.

So just had an email from .fr. They asked me to kindly return it, to France at my expense. Which they'll reimburse.

One to came in a huge box and something that valuable, is going to cost a bit to post insured isn't it?

Am I able to refuse this and make it available for them to collect? Yes it will cost me time. CROSS POST

However I'm nervous of taking any responsibility of sending this back, by choosing a delivery firm etc. As it is not a cheap piece of kit. Having had a very recent near miss with a £1700 iMac and all. Luckily I had purchased it so had more protection, what with it being so valuable and that, if the company were not so pro active in sorting it out, I'd of had the credit act to fall back on.

I'd politely reply stating that you're unwilling to take responsibility in delivering it back to Amazon France and they should arrange for collection via an insured courier of THEIR choice.

    I agree with this.

This is not your fault so shouldn't become your problem.

Let them arrange - at their cost - for it to be returned to them.

Haven't got a response thus far, the other one was pretty immediate. So we shall see what they say, I imagine its got to go higher for them to sort.

I have to say that this is one area where Amazon' s usual great customer service really falls down. They don't seem to have a process to deal with misdelivered goods, where the customer details on the packet differ from the contents.

I have had this happen twice. The first time I paid for the return and Amazon didn't reimburse me until I sent a recorded letter (turns out they refunded the postage cost to the person whose order I received!)

Second time , I stood my ground and eventually they told me to dispose of the items.

They don't seem to be able to cope , when they send items to the wrong person.

I wouldn't go out of my way much at all.
Certainly don't pay a penny from your pocket for the return (or take time off work etc.) - if they can't arrange a free return because they don't have an order from you, how are they going to arrange your refund?

Precisely my point - except I've never had it happen to me.

Well exactly. I'm no theif or after it necessarily. I've had amazon deliver me a parcel before at Christmas, for someone on the other side of my village. That time it wasn't addressed to me, so I made sure the recipient got it unopened and she was very thankful as it was a console or something. Again signed for expected parcels saw one was not mine.

So I'm more than happy to tell them and have them collect it. I was not after work around to claim it. My initial concern was they'd say this. Once bitten and all that. So I've done what I can do. Down to them now.

I'm not going out of my way or incurring expense. Considering in great bold asterixs they asked me to send it STANDARD MAIL only.....errr I don't think so.
