Unsolicited goods or not?

Options
I had a delivery from Amazon today. Came by courier as I'm a prime member. I signed for two parcels. Both were addressed to me. I was trying to remember what I ordered. I usuall order a lot, so forgetting what's arriving isn't unusual plus it was 7.30 am :o

So I opened it to find one parcel what I ordered yesterday. The other was a return of a digital camcorder from an Amazon France customer.

God knows how this happened as it was addressed to me, tracking ties into being delivered to me.

Yes I AM contacting amazon France to let them know of the mistake. Where do I stand if they try and charge me returns, the cost of the camcorder or if they fail to pick it up?

I'm not sure if this comes under unsolicited goods where you have protection from charges of they fail to collect etc.

I had a book delivered to me in error, it had my name on the outside but someone else's inside. I phoned amazon to ask the to send me a freepost returns lable, which they said they couldn't do as the order was not in my name. They told me to go to the post office, pay to return it, and they would refund me. I told them no way was I doing that, as I was heavily pregnant and our nearest post office is a trek, especially with a monkey 2yo as well. I said they could collect it if they wanted it, so they just told me to keep it. Not sure what they will do with a higher value item, but it usually pays to be honest and confess, in my opinion...

I've already said I'm telling them. I was after opinions on what I do, if they mess me about with sending it back.

I'd just contact Amazon and suggest they collect it from you.

I would be amazed if they were not interested in getting the camcorder back ASAP, but if it does turn out to be a bit of a saga then there is one thing that you could suggest.

Just tell them that you will keep hold of it until the next time you order something from them that is delivered by a courier and when that items comes, you will give the package to the delivery agent for return to Amazon. (if you do this just make sure that you get a receipt).

By doing it this way, you won't have to make a trop to the post office or courier depot, nor will you have to wait in for the courier to collect from you.

To answer your original question, no this is not unsolicited goods.

Have to see what happens then. As the reason I was asking is the protection you have with UG, not so I could keep it.

Considering I've just had a problem with a £1700 iMac I ordered from another company go missing. It was returned due to me being sent a lesser one.

I'm very, very wary of being responsible for sending electrical goods now. Especially as it isn't my order, so I can't resolve issues like above. As I don't have all the paperwork etc. No way are they going to wantit to go through rm.

Have you contacted Amazon UK? Let them organise the collection of the camcorder.

I've just copied all the details down to email, not sure of to email .co.uk of .fr. As it is an amazon France order.

It's not actually a return either, presumed that because the seal was loose. Is a brand new order they've sent to me in error, odd.
