Sorry, I was trying to imply that I thought you were doing the right thing by 'fessing up, not that I thought you wouldn't!

I would just carry on insisting that they collect it. I agree with you that I wouldn't want the responsibility of a high priced electrical item being delivered abroad.

Seems like Amazon France aren't as good as Amazon UK. I've returned a couple of things this year and they've collected and replaced within 24 hours, at their expense.

Amazon tend to be very good, IF the problem is one of your orders. If however, like in this case. It isn't. It's someone else's, sent to you. They don't know what to do.

I imagine the lady concerned probably has another one on the way to her now they know its not on its way.

Still no response to them picking it up. Oh well. Ill keep it safe and available for them to collect, if they do.

They are very good when its your order; a battery pack I bought has developed a fault; and they have a brand new one on the way before I've even returned the old one.

Give them, say, 2 weeks to sort something, then write to them (recorded delivery - to Amazon UK if necessary) and tell them that in a further 14 days you will dispose of it as you see fit unless they arrange to have it collected (at your convenience) or issue you a label to return it to them for free.

Otherwise you'll be sitting on it forever.

Amazon UK won't do a thing they are not interested at all. So I shall send the trading standards letter template for unsolicited goods, tweaked a bit. Saying just that really.

I shall send it by email with read receipt.

Then just keep it as a spare if they don't happy days

That's why I said tweaked a bit

I can read. No need to shout.

Just with the timescales etc with pick up on it.

It is interesting though and I'm glad I asked here. As every where like citizens advice, trading standards etc. Have very basic information. Which all says any goods you receive addresses to you personally, which were unordered are unsolicited goods. They really should update the definitions really. As everyone here has obvioulsy said that is not the case. Still not sure of the reason why! But glad nevertheless to have asked.

They do also say that goods sent in error remain property of the seller if memory serves.

Theres a separate guide on CAB for these situations, i think its called abandoned and uncollected goods. Just most people prefer to think of it as unsolicited goods because they like the thought of getting a freebie.

You could also ask amazon for a discount code/voucher for your trouble/honesty though :D If you dont ask, you dont get.

    I don't want a freebie, as I don't need another camcorder.

I don't want to get stung for being responsible for it.

Amazon so far are showing no interest in picking it up however.

However when you click through to abonded goods, which is the FIRST thing I did, before posting here. It clearly says goods sent to you through the post which you didn't order are unsolicited goods in bold. So it's pretty easy to presume they are, as on every page this is what citizens advice and trading standards say. So you then go though to unsolicited goods. Which says nothing about this situation not being unsolicited goods. Obviously some part of the law they aren't stating to make it clear.

I know you dont, i've read your OP ;)

My post was in response to you saying about CAB etc only having basic info on their website. I was saying the correct info is there, but the mistake is often made on the users end, they see the unsolicited goods section and think that applies to them.

Unsolicited goods are goods that a company has sent to you with a view to you acquiring them. While these goods have been sent to you, it has been through mistake and not with a view to you acquiring them.

Thats the reason why they're not unsolicited :D
