Socks for kids - single colour?

This reminds me of when my DDs were at school. They both wore knee-length black socks and so did my DH. I had a good laugh one evening when DH put his feet up after work and he had DD1's nametag on 'his' socks!
Years ago, my mother was teasing OH about being caught nicking things - he was wearing one of my sister's socks inside out, and it was name-taped. I must have nicked it from my parents' house, then OH nicked it from me. It was too small, as well as not his....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
It clearly causes you some upset when you are unable to match pairs of socks. You may or may not have considered seeking help to address your OCD.
OH is a colour-blind, borderline OCD obsessive, when it comes to socks. He needs more help. I present him with a pile of matched socks, and keep the solo stragglers to one side for a couple of washes - in case the partner turns up. Otherwise, he would bin all of the solo stragglers, and end up sockless.
Hi all,
It doesn't really cause me upset, just irritation as I keep all the solo stragglers on one side too...there is now a large carrier bag full of lonely socks! Every now and then I empty the bag and attempt matching up pairs, but that only reduces the total by about 10%.
To be honest I could do with caring a bit more about household stuff - the house is a mess, and I think the sock thing shows I like to have control over just one or two aspects of life! If the kids don't have clean socks, they either steal mine or don't change their socks, neither of which is ideal.
My plan now is to pay a visit to Primark( thank you tayforth) and buy many socks in one colour for DS2, then put all the solo stragglers/hard to match socks in the textile recycling bin at the tip. Then maybe I can get my teeth into organising something more significant!
Thanks for all the answers, I do appreciate your input.

I'm like you - the socks are organised but the rest of the house is dreadful. My 16 year old begged me to let him have odd socks from the sock bag, because he'd been wanting to wear odd ones for years but thought I wouldn't let him. It hadn't occurred to him that he could make his own odd pairs from the matched pairs I'd given him!52% tight0

What about...buying some multipacks of white socks..and dying them? That way you could have different colours for each person? That's the only thing i can think of right now
Bf always wears odd socks...and always seems to steal mine too :mad:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

BHS used to sell multi packs of grey, black or navy - DS1 had black & DS2 had grey till he was about 15 and started on the odd sock thing.
Now they buy their own, and DH buys his black or navy multi-packs in Next.0 -
We all have heel and toe socks which makes life much easier for matching socks. I banned DH from buying plain ones because I could never match them up.
When the kids were much smaller, I used to spread all the clean socks on the floor and declare "sock snap". DS renamed this a couple of months ago and it is now called "sock mahjong". We all wear the same size too.

I just grab two socks anyway, who cares if the colours don't match, they are hidden in your shoes so it's not like people really see them.0

Children display their socks when getting changed for PE twice a week, and swimming etc. so if a child wanted their socks to be paired then I would pair them. Also, some of them have a bit of colour at the top, so if the trousers ride up when they sit down they might have their odd-ness on display. I have 2 teenagers in the same class (one of them isn't mine) and one likes matching socks and the other prefers odd socks.
Sometimes my husband changes into boots to go into a factory at work, and it would be inappropriate for his socks to be odd. Mine don't matter though, I wear odd socks when their partners get a hole.52% tight0
