Does he want multi coloured socks?

Not at all - what I'm after is a multi pack of socks in one colour!

M&S do some with coloured toes/heels in various sizes.

My DS2 has some of these but I can't cope with the toes/heels being mismatched...I'm too OCD....

What I'd really like is plain socks in one colour - not grey as his school socks are grey, and not black as I've got black socks. In my ideal world, each member of the family would have a signature sock, and I could instantly home and pair the socks (how sad is that?)

Thanks for all these responses - I am really grateful for your ideas.

It was tights that used to drive my mother up the wall - my sisters and I all wore navy blue tights for school (except in the summer) and although we were different ages / heights, they all looked the same when not on legs.

She ended up sewing coloured threads into them as she bought them - I was blue, my next sister was red, and my other sister was yellow.

Primark do multipacks of one-colour socks, for men and women :)

Your family may be happy to wear mis-matched socks - and may even choose to do so.

It clearly causes you some upset when you are unable to match pairs of socks. You may or may not have considered seeking help to address your OCD.

Or, you could simply leave you family to sort out their own socks.

In our house, DD chooses to wear mis-matched socks. I present her with a pile of solo socks, and leave her to deal with them as she wishes.

DS usually wears matching socks (he's a rebel when it comes to peer pressure :rotfl:). I present him with a pile of solo socks, and leave him to deal with them as he wishes.

OH is a colour-blind, borderline OCD obsessive, when it comes to socks. He needs more help. I present him with a pile of matched socks, and keep the solo stragglers to one side for a couple of washes - in case the partner turns up. Otherwise, he would bin all of the solo stragglers, and end up sockless.

My kids dont do the mis-match thing and like black socks. Unfortunately any plain black socks seem to end up in my drawer :o as I only wear plain black socks worn inside out!

The toe and heel colours are fab....and those where the soles have a pattern on. :T My eldest dd (17) wears socks that are black with blue, green, purple, red bits on.....her sister (15) tends to go for pinks and pastels.

My problem now is that their 9 yr old brother wants black socks. Since we all wear the same size it gets confusing which socka go in which piles I'm thinking of getting him black sports socks with the cushioned soles.

My only suggestion is to buy 5 packs of the 5 diff coloured socks, and share them out- if you have enough people in your house in the same sizing.

Hand knitted socks rock. Failing that I am sure the likes of Next or even Primarni do packs of all black socks- certainly I have got them in Primark.

I'd have thought there weren't many differences between men's and women's socks, other than colour and size. So women's as well as men's might be worth a look?
Although what I did was remove the packaging from the girls' pack before presenting the new socks to DS2.

:T So true. Mum knitted a couple of pairs for Dad, which I inherited when he died. They were knitted with rainbow striped wool. They are SO comfy, not too tight on the calves. I said how much I liked them, and she said she had knitted another (single) sock for Dad but had then lost the wool, when she found it she finished the pair, and knitted me a fourth pair, so I have had warm and cosy feet all winter!

I'm also a bit OCD, and I find that even packs of plain socks stop matching after a while. So I like the patterned heels and toes. But I pass the problem on to the sock owners. And yes, each boy had a different colour or style: DS2 had padded sports socks, DS1 had black and DS3 had grey. When I bought DS1 some with the days of the week on, he would only wear them on the 'right' day, until they started wearing out. Then he wore odd socks.

The trend for non-matching neon socks goes back to AT LEAST the early 80s, BTW. Although possibly not really a trend, as one of our friends with a really common first name was known then as 'Fred Sox', because of his non-matching footwear, which was unusual at the time. If it had been 'cool' or trendy, he wouldn't have done it ...

BTW, Fred's not his real name.
Signature removed for peace of mind

This reminds me of when my DDs were at school. They both wore knee-length black socks and so did my DH. I had a good laugh one evening when DH put his feet up after work and he had DD1's nametag on 'his' socks!

I think unless you buy several packets at the same time they won't match and even then it's not foolproof. My OH has loads of socks in the same colours from the same supplier and they vary in length, thickness etc.

A bit off topic but I have similar problems with variety packs of anything. I like to make my own choices. Does anyone really buy those packs of knickers in random colours and random patterns?
