All I can say is that it must be nice, being allowed to fund 2 gym memberships from direct payments when there are people who can't get money towards support to prepare and eat food on the same scheme.

I am sorry nanny but I am starting to wonder if you are a troll, I hope not but some things are really not stacking up with what you say.

2 gym memberships? Wow, this just gets worse! Like you say, some people are even struggling to have the basics in life like food and heating.

The friend she employs for £10 per hour (possibly £10 net) to taxi her around and run her bath for her.

I think it's a relative. She has mentioned several times 'I am not the only family member who wants to visit' when referring to why her daughter doesn't visit her.

I was under the impression they got a 241 deal but i could be wrong :o

I know some places you can get a carer to go for free (i know you can for swimming etc), though not sure if that works for gym memberships..

Yes, think we were on a par with London in how many were affected, but got a much smaller allocation of DHP if I read it correctly. Forgive me, I've been ill most of the weekend and can't remember where I read it.

I'm sorry. I hope you're feeling a bit better now.
Don't know if she had packed up her belongings ready to move, or to save the family a job. Guess we read that in different ways. Yes, tragic for all involved.

    Oh. That sounds horribly likely.

People thinking it's only £20/week don't realise how much pressure having that £20/week can mean when you don't have it when living on benefits.

As nanny said, that's 20% of income for someone on ESA (WRAG) and an even bigger proportion for someone on JSA. Although the £20 she speaks of is for rent and CTB. The CTB hasn't hit up here yet thankfully

Quite some while ago now I lived on Supp. Ben. of £6 a week plus £4 rent, yet I forget until something happens to remind me.

I think the CTB cut has just hit here.

No they clearly stated they pay twice, I distinctly remember as I thought an aid would get in free (if not using the equipment just supporting).

    Ah fair enough :o

My brain is mush right now after an unexpected shift at work .. :p

Is it a council run gym? I think they tend to be a bit cheaper.. I imagine 2 lots at the more expensive ones would add up.
