The thing I found interesting was the bank commenting that they didn't expect people to read the T&Cs. I wonder why.

Tell me about it, I love the filthy looks you get when you settle down to take them in during a credit card application.........

Hope this helps cardholders who are having difficulty getting hold of Chip & Signature Cards:

    SMILE:

To opt out of CHIP & PIN you'll need to give us a ring on 0870 843 2265 as there is a form that we need to fill out for you over the phone.

    HALIFAX:

    To order a Chip & Signature Card: 01422 326110

GM Platinum Card: Provide no information whatsoever in their terms and conditions for those with PIN issues. According to their call centre submit a letter with an application and they will furnish you with a Chip & Sign Card!
  • I have just requested a C&S Visa card from Natwest. They said I needed to be "blind or something" to get one and that my reason of "I don't trust Chip and Pin" was not valid. I said that other banks had no problem in offering C&S cards on request and that Natwest had previously offered me a C&S debit card, but this did not really shift them. In the end, the manager said she would submit my application, but that it might be rejected. How nice.
    What?

Did you not know that there is another way?!

    Oh, do tell!!!

Well if I want to have a chip and sign debit card for use in shops then I can but I would be unable to use it to withdraw money from an ATM as I would not have a PIN to enter onto the keypad.

@ Snapelover - I think eagle was interpreting your statement that you are a "VIP" to mean Very Important Person. I assumed you meant Visually Impaired Person ?
    Not even wrong

You would probably still get issued with a PIN so you could use it in ATMs. I certainly had PINs for credit cards before they even had chips on them!

Natwest told me that their C&S cards do not have a PIN for any use, including ATMs.

Regarding what Natwest told me above (that I must be "blind or something" to get a C&S card), are they allowed to ask this sort of information when someone is applying for a card? It says on the C&P website that no medical evidence is required to get a card, so where does this leave everything?
    What?

It is obvious that NatWest is trying to discourage people taking C&S cards by saying that if you cannot use a PIN to buy (because of your disabilities) then you cannot have a PIN at all!

I would suggest you find another bank.
