I tend to make trips to the supermarket more often (it is on my way from work) and check the offers - I end up saving a lot and I always come up with a good meal out of the ingredients I get this way. I believe the cheapest price per portion I manged to get was around 30p

I made a Spanish-style omelette tonight for tea, with potatoes, peppers, tomatoes, smoked sausage, sliced turkey, eggs and cheese and herbs.

I've just priced it up and it comes to £1.83 for 4 portions, just under 46p per portion, and it was very filling. Would nice with a side salad too, but I made it to use up bits and pieces from the fridge and don't have any salad at the moment!

I also love baking, and made a spreadsheet a while ago with all the common ingredients on. When I buy ingredients for the store cupboard, I update the price on my spreadsheet.

My spreadsheet calculates the cost per gram/unit (such as 1 egg).

When I make something, there is a column where I can put in how many grams/units I use, and the spreadsheet calculates the cost of the recipe for me.

I've found that really useful. I've tried making one for main meals etc but we eat too much variety of ingredients, and it made too long a spreadsheet to use.

I may give it another go though!

I've got a similar spreadsheet but I just save the blank spreadsheet with the formulae on and if I want to cost a particular meal I input the details and come up with a cost per portion or cost per meal.
