In the late 1990s DH worked in a high end interior design studio and once had a visit from a couple of elderly guys that from the way they were dressed appeared to be not much better than tramps. They eventually placed an order (£20k+) and turned up to pay the deposit with carrier bags literally stuffed full of cash - apparently they ran a market garden and were very old school, preferring to stash their cash under the floorboards
And landed gentry tend to be the scruffiest people on earth - asset rich but cash poor, and with enough sense of entitlement to wear whatever they damn well please.
I like to follow their example. :rotfl: Just wish I had the country estate to back it up.They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Hyacinth Bucket recommends a nice wide brimmed salmon pink hat or failing that, whatever was acceptable at Ascot Ladies' Day this past year.0

As others have already highlighted footwear probably the most important thing to remember. Something you can easily remove if asked. I always get people to remove shoes before entering the house.0

It is the neighbours you have got to impress. The house next door to me has just gone on the market and I will be inspecting all viewers carefully!!!!0

I wear Crocs without socks..
It would look strange if I took another pair to change into to wear inside, but I wouldn't dare go barefoot especially if they have pets. A dog/cat hair under the skin or a splinter can be a big prob for someone with diabetes if infection sets in.
Thinking back to last viewings I remember, we went to one house, the EA opened front door and nearly fell down a hole in the floorboards  We discovered that someone had trashed the empty property since her last visit including taking a sledgehammer to the loo and setting fire to floorboards. It was a doer-upper but we decided if the neighbourhood was that bad we didn't want to live there
I don't actually own any jeans unless moleskin ones count..
Oh for the poster who said I'd have trouble finding a house nope I know what I want.
Personally if I still wore socks I'd go for the mismatching sock look
ronmiel has just put the fear of death in me eek. I think maybe all black and Raybans and just slink past...0 -
Me and the wife always go round dressed as Saddam Hussein and queen Victoria. It's a great way to break the ice and in fact next year we will be holidaying in Tuscany with one couple who we met.
I do find the dress to be a little inconvenient for loft inspections however.0 -

Depends who wears the trousers!Might go in your favour wearing something to get someone's attention. And who's to say it'll be a couple... Anyway, doesn't matter what I wear, some people still forget I have a face!
Thing is, you just never know who's going to be behind the door - as a seller or a buyer!
