National Tyres offer - CON

  • I think in the pizza takeaway industry, the offers are just there because it's assumed that in this industry you need to have them. Like if you opened a pizza place and all your prices were reasonable and you didn't have offers, somehow it wouldn't look right.

Been to so many pizza places that have so many competiting offers, you spot one offer and you think, ok good deal, I'll get that. Then you sit and wait and then notice another competiting offer. Look I could get a 1.5lt drink and 4 garlic bread for just £1 more!!
  • I have always found Blackcircles all inclusive fully fitted price pretty much unbeatable. Cheaper even than Camskill + fitting arrangement. Less hassle as well.

Guy who fits my tyres said his normal supplier just can't match the Blackcircles price for most tyres even though he is fitting them for them.

Pick the right tyre and you can end up with double, triple or quadruple Tesco Clubcard points + do it with Topcashback and you can also get a bit of cash back too.

I've found the same, my local National Tyres have been good in the past (although last time was probably down to an error on their system which miscalculated the discount) but this time the cost differential to Black Circles was just too large. The tyre I wanted happened to have quadruple clubcard points as well from Black Circles which was a decent number of points.

It was all very straightforward to sort out as I expected the garages would be looking for other items they could replace on my car but no, they just popped the tyres on, asked me to sign they'd done the work and that was it finished.

They are offering buy one get one free, which on the face of it seems a legitimate offer.

However, they're charging twice as much for one tyre.

Sharp trading practice at very least.

The problem is, manufacturers play along (in fact, actively encourage it) by setting vastly inflated recommended prices. If I want to, I can start importing cheap £35 Korean tyres and give a recommended retail price of £250 each. That's perfectly legal - I'm not saying they're worth £250, I'm just suggesting that my retailers price them at that.

If the retailers then decide to sell them at £125 each they can legitimately say it's 50% off the recommended retail. Or they can sell them at the recommended £250 each but throw in a second one on a BOGOF. It works best (and happens more) with big brand names simply because people are more likely to believe that, say, an Avon is "worth" £250 in the first place than they are if it's a budget brand.

You see the same with a lot of products nowadays and it works because the consumers fall for it every time thanks to brand snobbery.

Reminds me of my local pizza place. BOGOF is £12 but if you only want one it's £7.50 :naughty:

Actually I've just looked on the site and can't understand why you are getting confused.

I put in 205/55/16 and this came up (I've edited the two together so you can see the drop down and text).

Any ideas how long the clubard points take to appear on your clubcard statement. I got 4 tyres last month and got triple points but nothing showing up yet.

I'm not suggesting buying them from National, I just don't see why the previous poster was getting confused.

I get mine online and have a mate fit them, last set were from Pneus Online, Camskill before that.
