Have a look on http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ , this is the online channel for National Tyres.

The prices may be even better on there for the same rubber, fitted at the same place.

    Runflats?

Another place I have used is bestbuytyres who use local fitters.

No, I had run flats but changed them for normal tyres ( hence changing all four)

National refused to fit them without a letter from my insurance company. I really don't see it as any of their business as long as the tyres are the right size.

I an aware of the mixing of run flats and normals but as i changed all four, there is no issue.
I called my insurers from the waiting room. They didn't even class it or record it as a modification, as long as they were the same size

National changed then eventually but not without far too much hassle. I had no idea where it would have left me. Tyres all paid for and delivered but the fitters refusing to fit.

In my much younger days I used to get part worms and remoulds, never had an issue from fitters.

Your not the first person to state that and I've heard some classical replies on some of the BMW forums.

I'll be ditching mine when they wear out. Harsh ride and skittish handling for tyres that are overpriced and are only good for the first few mm's of tread.

I had to use national tyres on my 5 series last week after buying online from tyre shopper UK.
I got the tyres much cheaper than national could have supplied them but considering mine was the only car in the fitting bay, taking over one hour forty five minutes to change four tyres is, in my view, excessive.

They even refused to fit them at one point. I found national Tye's very unhelpful, very slow and due to filling them all to 28psi instead of 40/36, somewhat useless.

Never again, even if the tyres are cheap will I return to national tyres.

I have no choice other than to use National Tyres for oil and filter changes. I simply don't have the space to do it myself.

Every time I've been waiting in there, someone comes in to get a job put right.

I always put a "tell-tale" on the dipstick, to check that they've removed it. Unfortunately, the filter on my current car is a renewable element, so I can't mark the filter housing. Even with it being a diesel, new oil is less black. I always check for leaks from the filter and carry a spare litre of oil for a couple of weeks afterwards.

PS. If you book online, you don't have to select the engine flush (pointless and potentially dangerous, IMHO) and can deselect the oil disposal charge, which is not compulsory. If they ever notice the last one and get "funny", I'll tell them to put it in the empty 5L plastic container I put in the car just in case. My council takes small quantities of used oil in the roadside collection as well as at the depots.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
  • i'd like to add to this thread , i was looking around for 2 new tyres for the front of our car , i used tyre shopper , black circles etc and the ones i wanted came in around 120 for the pair, so i selected a local fitting center and it brought up national .
when i clicked on their site to check branch details it flashed up buy one get one free! with 2 tyres coming up at 135, bargain i thought buy 2 for 135 and 2 free so 4 for 135 , sounded perfect so i thought i'll pop down and get them direct from the branch , the manager was very abrupt and basically accused me of taking the p**s and said i shoul have selected i wanted 4 tyres the price 241!!!!! thats with the offer, maybe i'm being a bit stupid here but how does 4 60 pound tyres on BOGOF come to 241? ,i phoned their call center and was told he had got it wrong and it was only 207.............how do they get around these claims as i really cant see where anything is free, surely it's against the law

Reminds me of my local pizza place. BOGOF is £12 but if you only want one it's £7.50 :naughty:

Actually I've just looked on the site and can't understand why you are getting confused.

I put in 205/55/16 and this came up (I've edited the two together so you can see the drop down and text).

Dominos do it all the time. Buy one get one free on their large pizzas but they're twice the price they should be so you're going to spend the guts of £20 to get a couple of pizzas anyway. They sent me a £10 off a £25 spend voucher - but then you cant use it in conjunction with any other offer, so its *worse* than the standard deal.

    Bunch of cowboys.

£20 for a couple of pizzas? Pfft -- my local place does two 16" pizzas for a tenner -- and they're hardly the cheapest in the country.

Similar result with small garages vs KwikFit.
