National Tyres offer - CON

I need 2 new front tyres so I've been having a browse online and National had good tyres on BOGOF. £92.50 fitted etc for both.

Carried on googling, and had a look at the AA. They have the same tyres and for the pair is £87.40 with another 2.5% off for an AA member. And they use National to supply and fit them!

Its all very annoying

Common tactic used to make people think they're getting that good a bargain that its not worth checking elsewhere.

All the supermarkets do it too.

Same as the "now £4", previously £5.87.

When in actuality it is always £4 apart from the 6 days a week ago they put it up and sold almost no units.

But yay now it has a shiny red sticker on it...

Should be illegal as to me as it is incredibly sharp practice.

Same as the reduced size same price shenanigans.

The mark up from 'trade' to 'retail' on tyres, exhausts, brakes etc is often 60% or more.
    Hence big 'apparent' discounts.

Have a look on http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/ , this is the online channel for National Tyres.

The prices may be even better on there for the same rubber, fitted at the same place.

Still looking for the "con" here?

Two special offers, one allegation that one is cheaper than the other!

    So, use the cheaper one!

I assume you need to be an AA member for the AA discount?

I assume you don't need to be a member of the AA for the National tyres discount?

Still trying to see where this "con" has taken place.

I would also add in "Camskill" as a decent enough place to get well priced tyres.

They are offering buy one get one free, which on the face of it seems a legitimate offer.

However, they're charging twice as much for one tyre.

Sharp trading practice at very least.

Camskill are cheap. The issue is finding somewhere that will fit them though.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Do you really want to be buying your tyres from one place and getting another to fit them. Imagine the tyre develops a fault (or worse). Is the supplier to blame or the firm that fitted them. To save a few quid is it really worth the hassle.

Anytime you buy a tyre online it is fitted by somebody else, just that Blackcircles or Mytyres have gone to the extra expense of sourcing the fitters for you, you have still bought the tyre online.

I was a little unfair to the OP as part of the AA deal apparently doesn't need AA membership and I missed that fact when skimming the post.

However, they are separate deals, if you use the AA deal you get that price, it is only a "con" if National then say their deal is better than charge you more.

Some people need to understand what a "con" actually is.

    As this isn't one.

I assume they would be less upset if the firm AA had chosen were Kwik Fit

I read these forums and some days I am glad I stopped working in the trade many years ago.

I can see your point but how likely is that?

In 30 years of motoring and motorcycling, some years 40K miles, I don't recall ever having a faulty tyre.
I'm sure it happens but I think the likelihood is low.
The only time I can think of where I had similar was with a bicycle tyre [talk about expensive] and it was the manufacturer that replaced it.
