Daily thread Sunday 20th May 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for the 20th May 2007. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone. Just seen the excellent result for veggies as Masterfoods back down on the use of animal rennet in their products. I think this is a clear demonstration of the power of the consumer. Here's a link.

I didn't manage to clean my bathroom tiles yesterday, or go for a walk so I suppose that's my plan for today. Also having a trip to the garden centre because I've decided to get a small plum tree to keep in a pot. I won't buy it yet. I just want to have a mooch around really. It's good to have a break! I got some strawberry plants yesterday to go in the planter I was give a couple of weeks ago. Dinner is lettuce soup followed by hummus and crudites. Not sure about the lettuce soup. Fingers crossed. (Edit - just realised it's Sunday and that probably sounds like a strange Sunday dinner! I've never done the Sunday roast dinner thing.)

Loraine, what a worry about your daughter. I hope she's okay today. Have a good day everyone.
May all your dots fall silently to the ground.

Hi Gingham, mrs-mix and all to follow,

AMIE, I hope your daughter is OK, It must have been a dreadful experience for you both.

Roast pork here too in the Smokey household mrs-mix, we will have ours at tea time as I am at work until 2.30pm.

Gingham, I love nothing more than wandering around garden centers, enjoy!!

I am going to rope the two eldest in to help me give the place a good dust and hoover after work, as OH is feeling very rough with 'man flu' (he looks awful to be fair) and he will be exhausted by the time I get home after work and so I will pack him off to bed while we sort the rest of the house out. Then I will feed him up with a nice pork dinner, a hot bath, two paracetamol and pack him off to bed while I watch the Rebus I taped last night.

Work was hard again yesterday, the GP was called out again to our lady and has increased the dosage of the meds, this will take time to kick in as the dose needs to build up in her system, in the meantime though all hands on care is not a pleasant experience for all concerned.

I best get a move on, my lift is here at 6.40am and I need a quick shower.

_hugs.gifto mrs-mix and everyone who needs one today.

    Smoky. xxxx

My first time contributing to a daily thread, forgive the scant post, having problems sleeping tonight, if I ever do get some rest I'll make a list of things to do today, OH is taking the car to have the brakes fixed this morning then hopefully we can get out for a walk, looks like it will be a nice day today. Going to be a lazy day methinks, email a few people I've been meaning to email for ages but been too busy, sort out the meal plan for June and get some washing done. And if I do all that and the sun is still out I may get out in the garden and do a little weeding and mulch laying, there again I may take Monty Don's advice and just sit and enjoy the garden (howling gales and rain permitting lol)

Thanks for posting the news re Masterfoods Gingham, cheered me up, been feeling a bit out of sorts of late hence not sleeping, nice to see that consumers do indeed get listened to and that we won't be getting animal nasties in some of DSS's fav choccy bars :) Anyway won't wibble, my darling cat has perfected the 'Mam' meow that means he wants cuddles and feeding and he won't stop calling my name until he gets it  easy to see who rules the roost in our house have a good day everyone :)

First day of working on a Sunday for a while. I have a ton of paperwork to do, so I will just sit there and plough through that lot and then get home for roast beef at T time.

    Hello Everyone,

Sorry not to have been posting lately, I have just had enough energy for three days of employment per week and everything else has been getting by on a wing and a prayer. Have managed to read some of the OS dailies, which has kept me in touch with everyone.

Yesterday I sorted out some of my infamous paperwork mountain. Set up a new filing sytem and shredded a HUGE amount, plus plenty of non-confidential stuff went to be recycled. There's still at least the same amount to do, but it's a good start. Perhaps when I get through it all, I will find my birth certificate etc - misfiled somewhere a while ago:eek: - will be a lot happier when they reappear! Part of not having been well has been these ghastly lapses in memory / concentration, and some important things have dropped off the radar - very frustrating!!

Yesterday I got skype up and running on my computer. It was very exciting and satisfield my MSE soul to be speaking to my D bro for free:D - and the sound quality was superb! will now pay zilch for all calls to my DB and DSIL in Oz. My next step when I'm out of contract will be to switch from BT Broadband to a less expensive provider.

My lodger is away this weekend, so I'm enjoying the luxury of being able to get up early and make a noise! i.e. have music on - the neighbours are far enough away not to be disturbed. It's soothing stuff anyway!

Today some friends are taking advantage of the lodger's absence to bring over some items for storage in my eaves. They have sold their house, but haven't yet found an alternative to buy, so I'll have custody of some of their belongings while they rent for a while.

Other than that, I'll make some soup, do some more filing and flinging, and enjoy the peace and quiet! My lodger is okay to live with, but if I didn't need the money, I would much prefer having my own space all to mysel! Having said that, I am mightily grateful for the extra tax free income, and the compromises involved aren't too onerous. nevertheless - enjoying the break!!

Hugs to all that need them, have a good day everyone whatever the weather.

GQ - :T Well done on sorting out your Skype! That will be an immense saving for you :T
    N9eav - enjoy our beef
Amie - thinking of your dd ((hugs))
Emmy - good luck at the car boot - hope you get some bargains :D Good luck with your buttermilk scones later. My 12yo made scones this week in Food Tech, luverly :D
For all the Chelsea Fans :j  :j Congrats :D:D:D

Beautiful morning again here, was awake at 4am when the birds decided to sing their little hearts out outside my window (well, that's what it felt like anyway!) Tried really hard to get back to sleep but light dozing was my limit. So, still feeling a bit weary. Hoping to go out for a walk with the boys later. Dinner will be something made with a pork loin that was lurking in the freezer. It was a bargain when I bought it (£3.49 reduced to £1) but not sure how good it will be later. I'll let you know
Got a craving for jelly, so I'll made one for tonights tea.
Have a lovely day one and all :D

    Good Morning All

(((hugs))) for those feeling under the weather.
Smokey - glad your lady got her dose increased - dont think anyone should be in pain like that nowdays.

Queenie - we as a Chelsea house were definately celebrating yesterday - DS's friend who was round took it well as he is a Man U supporter.

Lovely weather here at the moment, just about to pop into the bath but enjoying the peace and quiet before anyone gets us. Have put a load in the wm and just need to wash DD's school blazer and DS's fleece them am up straight. Did some ironing before the football yesterday but some more to do tonight.

Am going to a Farmers Show today - not been before there looks like there are loads of things going on including a craft fair and a farmers market. Bit pricey to get in (£20 family ticket) but hopefully will be worth it.

Best get in the bath now - have a great day.

    Morning all

Lovely sunny day, so off to the allotment later to do some weeding.

Made HM Indian last night, and spent 4 hours cooking , still at least I have 8 more curries frozen for other weeks.

Hope everyone has a good day x
