I thought you started the thread because you didnt like the way you were being 'forced' to have a smear test done
Two threads have been started and I am still not sure what the Ops point is!
Either she doesn't want a smear test because she lives in Scotland and she's under 25.
Or she.. lives in England and she's under 25 so she can't have one...
no..

I believe she said she hadn't gone for them which was why she was urging women to get them done (and was hers not the HPV one which can be vaccinated against too now? I thought that was why she was backing the vaccine so heartily)
I see. I didn't follow the story closely. I still don't judge her badly, poor girlThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

In the USA girls get them done from 16/18 so I think complaining about whether its 25 or not is a bit irrelevant as to whether it means you personally shouldn't get one as you are only comparing it to one country.
I thought jade goody had gone for a test but ignored follow up treatment until it was too late. I ignored my letter for 1 year, then thought about her and thought for goodness sakes and booked myself in. So I'm due another one this summer.
Plus like meritaten mentioned it may bring up other things you didn't know about. A small percentage of women have two cervixes for example.0 -

I have had a few letter ordering me to book a screening, all ignored. I did not appreciate how the letter did not make me aware that such a screening was optional and feel that for the health service to treat Women in such a way is a disgrace. How such an invasive procedure is meant to be tolerated without question and decent information provided.
Mass cervical screenings have not produced positive results where over one thousand woman would have to be screened over the period of thirty-five years in order to prevent one death.
Does anyone else share such opinions about the smear test programme or is this still a controversial opinion?
In all honesty, I think that you are being stupid. It is 30 seconds out of your life. Yes, they can be a bit embarrassing and, yes, you might feel a bit of discomfort but I know what I would rather put up with. Screening is vital. You know, my mums cancerous tumour was too small to be felt? Yes, a different part of her body but it was a routine mammogram that picked it up. Cancer doesn't care who it takes. It just takes.
If you don't want it, then fine. Be ignorant and play Russian roulette.0 -
You can rip up letter and not bother with a smear, ignore all letters, they will give up eventually, after all it is your human rights and your bagina at the end of the day0

bumbledore wrote: »Well no that's a different case. Ofcourse she should have been offered a smear despite her age as she showed symptoms, that isn't the point I'm making.
Just to point out that a smear test is a screening test not a diagnostic test. So anyone with symptoms should be examined by their doctor and referred onwards as necessary.0 -
I rather think then, she might not actually need one;)
so why the need to make 2 threads i shall never know
though is suspect the dt thread was throwingyourtoysoutofthepramitus (unless it was posted first in which case i could be wrong)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
