oh come on paul ...that's ridiculous.
remember the garage have had my car in 5 times ,the tell me they have changed bearings ,drop links ,checked discs ,balanced wheels at two different branches ,had rear wheels on the front and vice verse. And now only after i threaten to go legal do they fix it .two new tires they say but is it ??

All right... all right... but apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?

Seriously though, what do you actually want from these people, on top of the few hundred pounds worth of free betterment you've already obtained?

what in your eyes is a problem customer [...] ??

One who comes back "knowing their rights", when they really don't, or expecting "sweeteners" if there's a problem.

I'm a consumer as well as a watchmaker and I do know consumer rights law. People in the above category will get exactly what their rights (if any) entitle them to and nothing else.

For the others, who are pleasant about things, I'll bend over backwards to help.

A recent (just after Christmas) example was a guy who bought a 1960s Rotary and despite being told it was only "splashproof" at the time of sale, and despite the 12 month guarantee I give even on used watches being clearly marked "splashproof only, not suitable for showering or bathing", wore it in the shower by accident. He came back in, said what had happened, and asked if there was anything I could do for it because he liked the watch.

Even though the rust caused was absolutely not covered by guarantee (or any of "his rights") I re-overhauled the watch and spent as much on parts as I'd made on the watch in the first place without charging him a penny. So I was down by about 6 hours work altogether (the original pre-sale overhaul and the re-work with rust) but he was a happy customer because I appreciated his honesty and approach.

Had he come in saying his watch had stopped and making demands that I fix it, or asking for a sweetener for his inconvenience, one look at the water damage and he'd still have a broken watch because I wouldn't even have offered to repair it as a paid job - his money simply wouldn't be worth the potential aggravation :)

What an amusing discussion you all had last night :D.

thebullsback - I do understand you being hacked off with having to repeatedly take the car back to the garage. Three genuine questions:

    1) Did you test drive the car at the speed that the fault occurred?
    2) Why did you have to take the car in 5 times? Did the garage keep saying they'd fixed the fault when they hadn't? Is there a dual carriageway close to the garage that would have allowed them to test it? Issues of not being able to detect certain faults in the garage are less important if they could simply have driven the car to see if the fault was resolved.
    3) Did you read the terms of the warranty before signing the contract?
  • Good morning thread followers .
Mr watchmaker man you sound like a wonderful guy and if I ever want a trophy watch rather than a simple cheap accurate timepiece I would buy from you .
When I test drove the car the fault was not apparent if it were I would have queried it .
I was told the vehicle had a 3 month warranty on it and if i had "any bother bring it back " mercifully the dealer has stuck to his word .
I am not a guns blazing loud mouth person or costumer up until the final meeting with the dealer concerned I have been calm collected and accommodating however after 4 attempts to fix the car I thought enough was enough .I asked for my money back only on saying this did I feel that they started to take things seriously .
To say I feel aggrieved is correct and to be honest you lot would too .
I hope you all have a pleasant day today as I shall have.

You got more than you deserved. If you don't like that then deal with it, because you have no more rights to anything else.
