I was made redundant from that job following the accident referred to.....hence my claim for benefits.

    Thanks for looking though.

But that wouldn't be 2 months, is there also a period where they suspect you were working?

Which world are you living in? I earn a good income as does my partner and we both check our account balance at least once if not twice a month. It's nothing to do with how much you earn, it's to do with making sure there are no odd transactions and keeping an eye on how much we spend. We are fortunate that we don't have to write down every single transaction, but that's a far cry from never checking our account. Totally irresponsible behaviour considering how prevalent fraud is.

    what are you talking about?
    youre agreeing with me!
epitone said that they thought it quite understandable that someone wouldnt notice HB being paid into an account as many rarely/never check their balance!

i merely stated that someone who has more than enough MIGHT not check, but others certainly do!

2 different phone calls, to 2 different organisations, and neither resulted in them getting the message?
I'm not saying that councils and jobcentres don't ever makes mistakes, but it seems improbable.
Presumably OP can show his phone records with details of the calls, and can demonstrate that they haven't used the money that's been credited?

    Nope, not 2 phone calls.

Filled out the "Returning to work" section of my signing on book and posted through door of job centre.

This was followed up with numerous phone calls once it became obvious they had cocked things up.....twice they failed to send me a form i apparently had to fill in.....kept wanting me to go in to collect one, which as i work away was impossible.
Currently waiting their response to a letter i sent explaining the situation.

And you never received any bank statements or checked your balance for over 3 months?
Some people only get statements quarterly even 6 monthly.

The DWP would also have informed the council so the council incompetently ignored both the OP and the DWP communications.

My claim started mid November and should have ended early Jan.....just shy of 2 months....

Because of the mess the job centre have made of things, the LA are assuming my claim ended mid Dec as per Job Centre.....

I don't know the exact date or time that i called the "hub".....i never dreamt i would need to record such a mundane event. I do, however, remember the woman saying that i didn't need to call as the Job Centre would inform them of the change and it would automatically cease the HB & CTB.

I now wonder whether she never bothered to do anything for that very reason......all well and good presuming that the Job Centre got their end correct...which they didn't.....

I have no problem in attending an interview, when i can, and in principle no problem repaying the overpayment, but it will be at an amount that i can afford not one that they say.

It may well be "irresponsible" for me not to take a closer look at my account, and maybe this is a lesson for me, but bottom line is that this is their !!!! up not mine.

epitome said they mever/rarely check their bank account...

i was being facetious and said that people on low incomes/benefits know to the penny howe much money they have ( the OP was on JSA) and so should have noticed housing benefit payements!

i didnt say that people who earn well dont check .... but that people that dont need to must have more than enough money, to be able to miss a payment of a few hundred every month!

No, they haven't ignored the DWP.

The DWP informed the council that my claim ended mid Dec, which is incorrect and something i am arguing with the DWP over currently. But i don't know when the DWP told the council, i would assume pretty much the same time i found out they had lost my returning to work paperwork.....mid Jan.

For some reason, the council continued to pay benefit until March.....why? I don't know?

As far as i can see, i have done nothing wrong other than not check my accounts regularly.

Did I say many? Maybe it is "many" I don't know, it probably is "many".

I said I could relate to the OP not checking, because I don't check mine.

I don't like to see people on forums dismiss out of hand what an OP has said is the case just because it does not fit what they do in their own lives. People are different in all aspects of life.

If you are not expecting that money to be there, and are living within your wages, i would have no reason to check my accounts.

I am lucky in that i do earn fairly good money and work in a job where i don't have a lot of free time to spend it!

Why would i be looking for a payment i am not expecting?
