THank goodness for my OS son, aged 6. He decided he would like faggots and chips for tea. We got freshly made faggots off the market for 25p each
Thing is I've only ever bought the ones in a tray in gravy before. How should I cook these? Make gravy then bake them like the others?
Not sure 'bout the chips n gravy thing, not being a northener, but we are in an odd area here. Think the most common chip toppings re cheese or mayonnaise (lots of people from Holland!)

Hi Sarah, I'm feeling very guilty because my OH loves faggots and I can never be bothered to make them for him
I've dug out my old recipe book and it tells me to pack the faggots closely together in a baking tin and then bake for 30 mins at Gas 4, 350 F, 180C and serve with a rich brown gravy and pease pudding. So I guess you were on the right lines, just bake as usual and smother with gravy.
Enjoy!

As you say just make the chips and gravy heat the faggots (either in an oven or micro) serve and enjoy.0

Did them in the gravy in the microwave and we are all absolutely STUFFED! YUM! Very cheap and very fillingMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

they were only 25p don't think I would bother, Unless you made a big quantity. They have liver in them, and kidney, as far as I know, but more likely than not other 'odds and ends'
Our local market is so OS they still have a tripe stall, and chitterlings, and brawn too.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Ooh I used to love Faggots, my Dad used to make them from scratch and I seem to remember that they had heart, liver and stuf in and they were wrapped in cawl, but my Mum used to get Brains Faggots which were (and AFAIK still are) cheap and we always had them with peas and creamed potatoes. Don't know whether or not I could fancy them now though as it must be 20+ years since I had them as a kid. On the lines of faggots do any of you make stuffed hearts? I used to love these when my Dad made them when I was little but a while ago I bought some and tried to recreate them and they were rubbery and very strong tasting and not at all like I remember them. How do you do them - my Dad is sadly long departed and I can't ask him - I really wish I had written down some of his recipes though as there are so many things that he made which I have no idea how to do!!Jane

I am veggie and have no idea what faggots are. Are they the sort of thing I ought to try and give the kids? The only meat the will currently eat is sausages, chicken and mince (pureed!).WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0

kiwi - not sure if your children would like them, i hated them as a child, although i do quite like them now!!! I think they are pork with things like liver in them, so quite a strong taste!!!! Dont know if anyone has a recipe for them tho?0

My boys like them I would give them a try. Tastier than sausages. THey also love haggis which is good a that is also very cheap!
Leicester market does 12 faggots for £2.50, or 25p each. Cheap thing even if you get them once to try them out. Got to be even just a bit better than pureed mince :rolleyes:Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
