This discussion is about getting into the Support Group without a medical OR an appeal.
How many would you think do it that way AND with little or no evidence other than the ESA50?
how did you work that one out, when you send it an ESA50 it clearly states DO not send in medical evidence....
It's not actually about how sick you are as to wether you are in the support group, it's about fitting the descriptors as well you know....I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -

Where does it say that? The ESA50 I filled in earlier this year, on review, clearly said to send in as much evidence as you can.
In fact the letter that came a week or so before the ESA50 made many references to the fact that if you had evidence you should send it in.
In my case I believed that my ESA50 and copy of my repeat prescription told the whole story without the need to get someone to confirm anything. This turned out to be a correct assumption.
Of course it is about your illness/condition fitting the descriptors. Mine does quite clearly in many instances. If I was not as sick as I am, then they wouldn't have fitted the descriptors. So obviously it is down to the level of sickness that matters.0 -
Bigboybrother is correct Elli. They DO ask you to send in anything you have. I think that you may be thinking of, is that they say 'do not ask your doctor to specifically write something, like a report for you, on your health,' because they may charge you. But if you have a copy of a report that your specialist has written (and they normally write a report of your assessments and send the doctor - and you - a copy,) they you can send that in, or a copy of anything else that backs up your claim.0

Quite the opposite in fact as one of the questions on the ESA50 asks if you're including any medical reports with the form. It goes to great pains to remind you that if you have any medical reports or letters then these are to be included. You may be getting confused with "sicknotes" which are not be be sent in with the ESA50.
You are however correct when you say that if your condition satisfies (or fits) any of the Support Group descriptors then you are likely to be placed into the SG.0 -
I too have been placed in the SG from IB without a medical, I sent off my form on the 28th January and received my letter yesterday. My letter says my esa will be paid into my account from15th May until 25th November. Does this mean I will get another esa50 form in November?0

Most people who don't have an assessment seem to get put into the support group. I would find it odd if someone was put into the WRAG without an assessment. How can someone be regarded as suitable for work if they haven't been assessed?0

Very good point. If you have got a serious ailment and prove that, and it affects you and employment etc, the. Why have a medical?
Whereas if you have a less serious condition and have a chance of employment they need to find out how much I'm assuming.0 -
I've just done an ESA50 last week and it clearlŷ stated do not send medical evidence with the form, however I have just looked online and it states the complete opposite, but I promise it did say that, so luckily I did send a comprehensive GP letter (out of frustration).
I wonder if perhaps they are changing the forms or if I possibly got an old form, because when ESA was introduced this certainly was the case that you could not send them evidence, as there were many groups campaigning for this to be changed..So I don't know the answer...
If that's the case though, and I haven't been submitting written evidence I wonder if that's why I'm been assessed every six months, I've been getting that fed up with the process that my support worker suggested that I claim income support, which I don't really want to do...I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0 -

Both the current and previous ESA50s clearly state that the claimant should include any evidence they have with the form when it is returned to ATOS.

If you are in the WRAG you are still not fit for work but the plan is that they think you will be better and will be on the route to work, the support group you are basically 'written off as IDS would put it..
To be suitable for work you would be denied ESA and asked to claim JSA or IS..
Having said that there is no logic to this at all as I've been in the WRAG for over 4 years when ATOS state I'll be better in six months for conditions that cannot be improved and pain management is the only option. (DDD, OA & Fibro) but I've not bothered arguing it as it makes no difference to me which group I'm in as on income related and not obliged to undertake work activities..I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...0
