Also, this proves that attempting to bully worried parents does not work! It is unfair just to write them off as irresponsible. There is a significant minority who have weighed up the argument, and decided they mistrust the vaccine enough to refuse it. There is another significant minority who have chosen to pay rather than have it. If an alternative had been provided for this minority, rather than actually making it harder to access, there probably wouldn't be this outbreak. And all those £110s would be going to the NHS rather than private clinics.0

Any parent who would choose single vaccine or no vaccine is !!!!less and selfish. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with the MMR vaccine. It is safe and gives overall better protection and immunity levels than the single vaccines.
Also, the single vaccines aren't licensed for general use in this country.

so was Thalidomide at one time......0 -
There is absolutely no need to go for single vaccinations. Anyone who says there is sadly really just doesn't understand science and is nothing but a victim of scaremongering.
Simple rule to follow. Never ever trust the media as a source of science information. The vast majority of journalists have no idea how to review a science journal and only want to grab headline information without context to create headlines. Even the ones that doe understand science will rarely get the opportunity to conduct a proper review that would fit in with their press deadlines.
It's not bullying parents. It's called scientific fact based evidence.0 -

Yes, thank you, they are absolutely fine
The problem stems from parents not giving any vaccines at all. All these children in comprehensives contracting it haven't had the second jab.
We went private to give single vaccines. The people in our surgery looked at me like I had two heads when I told them back in 2000 that we were going private.
They treated me like I wasn't vaccinating at all.
DS had a letter the other day to have the MMR as there was no record of him being immunized . It was in his red book but, as it wasn't NHS issued, they thought he wasn't covered. I rang them to tell them he'd had the single vaccine and the nurse on the phone told me she hasn't given her son the MMR or the single one.
She's a nurse and even she hadn't given it until now0 -

And reviews are very different today than they where then. The process to get a drug to market is highly complex, including submitting all adverse effects (all drugs have them even over the counter ones). Drug studies need to follow the protocols, regulations and be conducted over an appropriate sample of the market. The vast majority of clinical drug trails fail to see a drug to the market.
Unscientific emotional based decisions like 'I don't trust it' is completely illogical and damaging.0 -

Read up on the thalidomide victims to see what the Government regulates as safe. Im sure there will be loads more.....
As for the Vaccine....The problem was not the unwillingness to vaccinate a child but the concentration of the dose(3 vaccs at once)coupled with the theorythat this could cause autism.
We did not use the triple vaccs, and were refused the single ones (even tho they were available) time and time again by the Health visitor, who seemed to have a bee in her bonnet that I could question her and the Doctor.
By giving the single vaccs to those who wanted them, then this epidemic would not be taking place, Refusing to give single vaccs is what caused this, but as usual the Government could not be seen to be bowing to pressure and coupled with all the politics that go with profit and drug companies/Government
Wow. How completely misguided. Especially the comparison with Thalidomide. Do you think nothing has changed since then?!
Husband and I have followed the MMR debate for years, read the scientific papers, and consulted with experts before coming to the conclusion that the MMR is a safe vaccine. My own mother is a renouned expert in autism and was involved in some of the scientific studies. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO LINK BETWEEN MMR AND AUTISM.
Less than 1 in a million children will suffer major damage as a result of it. If those million children were to catch measles, how many do you think would be left, like me, with permanent damage? A lot more than 1.
The Government has no reason to offer single vaccines as a) they don't offer as much protection and b) there is a greater risk that not all 6 jabs will be administered. It's likely the epidemic would be WORSE had single vaccines been available.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

I'm sorry, but you also back up yours! Point me to a study proving the MMR provides a better coverage than a single. I'm sick of those who choose single vaccines having to prove every statement while those who do MMR can claim anything they want.
If I were irresponsible, I wouldn't vaccinate, like the idiot they found to put in the paper the other day who refused meningitis vaccines! But making a valid choice to select a different method, based on all the evidence I have read, is not irresponsible! The vaccination nurse at my surgery is quite happy with my choice.
Also, if I insulted all parents who chose the MMR personally, calling them names, I would quite rightly be dealt with by the site.0 -

Nurses aren't scientists, or even doctors. They know nothing about drug studies. Even doctors in the UK will have little more than limited knowledge of these.0 -
Anyone who believes all vaccines are well tested in advance should look up the rotavirus one in the US...withdrawn after one year.0

Provided you ensured that your child/ren had all 6 jabs, I wouldn't call you irresponsible for not having the triple vaccine. Sadly not everybody does.
If all the parents in Swansea were concerned about the safety of MMR, why are they suddenly queuing up for hours to get it now?!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0
