Seems risky to wait for a transfer, as surely once you move you'll have quit the previous job so won't be considered for a transfer?

Unless you are planning on commuting 150 miles back to work each day?

Post #8: My landlord has already got several tenants waiting to move in to my place, i'd end up homeless/losing all my stuff if I cant get the time off.

Post #26 I am subletting my flat out to a friend, the majority of my belongings will be staying in my garage until I move.

    Which one is it?

This was a reply to paddedjohn stalking out my posts. I posted in my DFW thread stating I am moving in with family next month, so assumed I was doing 'a wind up'. While I am moving in with family, I am subletting my flat until my contract ends.

I started this post asking for advice about getting the time off work to move house, nothing else. If youre going to post anything not relevant to a way of getting the time off work, then dont bother. I dont want to use a courier or man in a van, I cant change the move date, and I cant get help from anyone. The only option is time off work, calling in sick or some other way.

Now, from the helpful posts, I see there is no way to get the time off. So unless anyone has any helpful advice, please post. If not, go be a keyboard warrior in someone elses thread.

I work 3 days per week, next to each other. I'd be travelling down and staying with family while I work. Its cheaper than paying rent + bills living here.

Then you are choosing what happens and have to accept the consequences. The rest is out of your control, this part isnt.

You have had the answers about getting time off.

Bearing in mind this is the moneysaving website, i would say comments about saving money are entirely valid.

I have never heard anything so bloody stupid in my life - moving house 150 miles on the train with few bags each journey!

I am guessing you don't drive. Why don't you hire a van and get a mate or a friend to drive? Or if you know someone very close and has their own work van, use that. When I was moving house with my ex, his electrician mate used his van to move our stuff. He had a large Merc van and able to move our stuff in one trip. I did drive my car which was full of delicate and more expensive items. Its more practical.

Is there nowhere at work the stuff could be kept so you just take some on each trip to work.

Also new build with a keys handover date(how many have fallen for that one).

What's the contingency if the build is late?

It'd be annoying to have to do, but you could put your stuff into storage for a week and stay with your parents, and then move everything 150 miles the next weekend (or whenever you next have time off work).

You would rather lose your job in this risky economy, than pay for a few days storage?!!

If the landlady has people queueing up she should let you out of the contract and put them in.

if your subletter trashes the place it you that she can sue.
