Ah OK, that is quite a distance.
Maybe speak to your colleagues then, ask (if management allows) if they would be willing or able to take their holiday a week before or after. A lot of people don't take time off just to go abroad so you may be lucky and find someone who is just taking a week or few days off to do some bits at home?!Weight Loss3lb Lost32lb To Go:xmassmile 8 Week Christmas Cracker SW Challenge :xmassmile3lb/12lb0 -
How much stuff do you have and why only by train?
If you are moving 150 miles whats happening to the job?0 -
If moving by train, what are you taking that cant be moved in one trip with a van? plenty of man-in-a-van outfits out there that would do the job for you. Another option would be to rent some storage near your new home and start taking bits and pieces down there a couple of weeks in advance.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

How do you know in January the two days that you will be moving in August?
Move the week before and pop your stuff in storage or someone's house for a week.Sanctimonious Veggie. GYO-er. Seed Saver. Get in.0 -
If you phone in sick, you will almost certainly find yourself subjected to some kind of disciplinary action. A manager has no obligation to grant holidays of your choice, if others have already booked the same time off. Staffing levels must be upheld for a company to continue to function properly, so if others got in first, there is not much you can do. It is unfortunate that it took so long for your holiday request to be rejected, but all workplaces have alternative management arrangements in the case of long term sickness, and you should have approached another member of management as soon as it was apparent that your line manager was off for any length of time.
Unfortunately, I think you need to make alternative arrangements for a different day.0 -
I have a fair bit of stuff. a man in a van solution will expensive compared to the train. As for my job, I will transfer when there is an avaliable position near me. for the time being I will be travelling down to work. its cheaper than the rent i am currently paying.
As for knowing the exact date in january. Our flat is still being built and our contract states we get keys on a specific day in august. my contract for my current flat also ends 3 days after. Storage will cost me money I cant afford and my family live too far for me to get it stored, nor do they have the room to do so.Total debt Aug 2012: £3800, Nov: £3225, Dec: £3151.45 2013: Jan: £1544.24 :j Feb: £1492.03Sept 2013: Debt free

Please explain how a train is going to be cheaper than a van. surely if you go by train you can only take a couple of bags at a time so would need multiple journeys and are limited by the size of your cargo. Is this a wind up?Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Storage, for the amount of stuff you could feasibly transport via train, will cost next to nothing for a couple of days (I speak from experience, having recently had to use storage facilities for far more than could be put on the 12:15 to Newcastle!)
Perhaps if you speak to colleagues NOW, and explain, someone will be more than happy to do you a favour and swap shifts so you can have the weekend off to move.0 -

Are you saying that you are not taking any furniture, beds, white goods etc? even if you arent then considering the distance involved you would still be better off with a van and the costs that go with it.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
