Wow, is thats good! Is that just the carcas, or does that include the doors as well?...just need to find a decent fitter whos willing to pass on most of the trade discount!

An earlier poster made a good point, exactly what info do they need in order to register you with a trade account? I remember seeing a recent thread where someone had set up a trade account with B&Q by just knocking up letterheaded paper on his computer and getting the units at a massive discount....but then if it was as easy as that I guess we would all be doing it!

They did not ask for any trade account information at all. That was price for cabinets, doors were listed seperetly on stockpile. Seems some companies are charging trade prices direct to public if they can be found.

Hi - we are buying a house that has a half-finished Howdens kitchen. The vendor basically ran out of money and is selling half finished.

We want to get the kitchen redesigned as currently it is a bit random (eg space for oven is next to sink and wall - bit weird), how do we go about doing that with Howdens?

I've scoured their website, but can't seem to find any number to call to ask.

We also have a friend who is a builder who is registered as a trades person with Magnet, is it easy to register with howdens so he can do the fitting for us?

    Any help/advice appreciated!

    Thanks

Bear in mind their appliance are not cheap!

We've been talking to Howden's guy to get our kitchen and he's been very upfront about their price - I told him what I can get from online shops and he's admitted they cant get any where near the dedicated appliance shop prices.

    Dear All,

If you have the time and nouse to assemble and fit a flat pack kitchen then there is nothing wrong with the premium offerings i.e. Cooke & Lewis from B&Q, Wickes, Homebase etc. You can probably negotiate down if you collect and it can be got home in no more than 2(ish) runs in the back of an estate car. Once they are in they are perfectly rigid but whilst handling during fitting they tend to be slightly less sturdy. The big stores usually offer extended periods of credit to their customers, which your builder will not :) this may be something which is essential for you, but a previous poster claimed that B&Q will offer either interest free credit OR 15% off, so possibly not entirely interest free!
Also you will not have to jump through Howdens hoops and become adept at quotation espionage, that is why the hoops are there of course :)

If you are engaging a tradesmen to fit your kitchen then it is probably worth strongly considering their recommendation.
If you ask your tradesmen to source your kitchen (once you have chosen a style and approved a design) they will bear the responsibility for ensuring that the installation runs smoothly, this includes chasing any undelivered parts, exchanging incorrectly specified items and taking care of damaged stock.
If you decide to source the kitchen yourself and there are issue's many tradesmen will do the running around for you but remember this may be reflected in their labour quote and if it is anything other than a straight exchange you may need to be on hand with card details etc.
FYI, I have heard a couple of times that IKEA's exchange mechanism is particularly long-winded and of course they are not always the closest place to go.
You will almost certainly pay more labour to have a flat pack kitchen fitted than a pre-assembed one as there is more labour involved.

Some fitters may sometimes mark up the prices they receive from Howdens, but it may be a misnomer to assume that if this happens you are getting less value. All supply chains have overheads and if the end cost is better or equivalent to B&Q et al for a better or equivalent product and the person who is working directly for you is picking up what would have been some of B&Q's margin in exchange for agreeing to absorb many of the complications that can occur that seems a pretty good way of doing it.

    Best of luck.

    Howdens Employee.

P.S. I can see why some people may object to some of the tone of a previous employee's post but I'm pleased to see other people who are prepared to jump on a computer (in their own time in my case, and probably their's too) and 'big up' the company they work for, for no other reason than they feel the need to. Howdens is a good company and I hope they (we) can help you to get a kitchen you love, like some posters already have, at a price you're happy with (through your tradesman of course :):):) ).

Anyone dealt with Howdens recently? They came round and measured and did a design, and have now given us a quote. According to the quote all prices contained within it have had a 70% discount applied? 70% discount off what though? This is the only price we've ever seen. The quote came to 3.5k without integrated appliances and 4.4k with a Bosch dishwasher (£340) and Bosch washing machine (£470). Which to be fair seems to be a decent price for the appliances at least if the prices on online sites like Appliance Deals are anything to go by.

Does 3.5k seem a 'normal' price from Howdens for something like the following (with some example prices) 1 Base Unit (500mm - £112), 2 Appliance Doors (£140), 1 sink Base Unit, 1 corner shelf, 1 4 door base unit (500mm £350), 1 wine rack, 1 wall unit (800mm £140), 4 base ends, 2 tower ends and a 3 metre wood worktop.

Am i likely to find that when my fitter buys it he'll add on some and it will cost loads more?

Howdens seem the best of the kitchen bunch we've seen. Just want to make sure we're getting the right price!

    Thanks!
