I actually recently had John Lewis honour one I thought they wouldn't, so whilst these deals always have fine print, I've found that if you're polite but firm you can generally do well with them.

    B&Q Price Promise
If you find any product even 1p cheaper anywhere else, we’ll refund the difference and give you an extra 10% off the lower price. We’re so confident our prices in store are cheaper than our competitors, that if you buy a product from us and find the same product (or equivalent in the case of the B&Q brand) available locally for less – even if it is a sale or special offer price – we’ll not just match that price but we’ll beat the lower price by a further 10% for your trouble.

All we ask is that the lower price is generally available to any potential customer on the day that you call back, within 14 days of purchase, with a proof of purchase. Please ask in store for full terms and conditions.

So, the full wording price promise wording including the phrase: if you buy a product from us and find the same product (or equivalent in the case of the B&Q brand) available locally for less...

Means that the OP's original fears seem to be unfounded.

Except that only applies to equivalents of B&Q branded products. Any other manufacturers product with a different product code is excluded.

The OP also stated that "last time they did this i looked at it in detail, every product had been re labeled specially for B & Q so you could'nt get it anywhere else in that exact specification" - so you won't be able to find an equivalent product.

You may be able to find equivalents for B&Q-branded products. But you're right about other-brand products ... the product codes may be different, so whilst they are actually the same product the model numbers/product codes are different so not "the same" and thus excluded from the offer. ;)

Currys have/had a price promise that stated if you can find the equivelent product within a certain radius they would match it, when i called them to honour it they were insistant that they should work out the distance to the other store using AA autoroute and seemed completley oblivious to the meaning of the word "radius" and refused to honour their own offer.
Few units up on the same estate was a PC world store who are the same company as currys, they happily honoured the offer but had none in stock so i walked down with a man and a trolley and picked up my telly from the same currys who had refused to honour the offer as they had several in stock, totally nonsensicle!

It is common practice for these companies to change the specification just slightly. As was mentioned at the beginning of the thread.
