If he enabled the onboard graphics, it means that there was another terminal for the monitor. You said that there was not.
So the graphics card would have fixed it and improved the performance of your machine at the same time....for the same price. Because you would have used the PCI Express 16x slot.
Anyway, it's sorted now.0 -

Its on a paper label on the top & it looked like 8110 but perhaps the 0 is a Q?
Now it's right. You'll also need to upgrade that RAM if you haven't already done so. 1GB RAM is not enough for Vista Home Premium.
Your machine may be annoying sluggish without it.0 -
I don't understand how it can be fixed as there is definitely only one port for the monitor so I've been sitting here thinking exactly what you've just pointed out to me. There is no second port so I'm sure he'll show me when I pick it up as I intend to ask questions to learn so. I'm v proud of my knowledge and skill improvement which funnily enough began by me putting more ram in it as you suggest. Everyone on here helped me and I bought it from crucial and also fixed the day/time problem with a new cell battery again with help from here. I love you guys. So I'm not afraid now to get the cover off and have a go. A big thanks to you & others for responding every time I put in an update.NiftyDigits wrote: »If he enabled the onboard graphics, it means that there was another terminal for the monitor. If you like tinkering, I might have another project for you soon.

The guy has dropped the pc back to me a few mins ago so even saving me the journey.
He says he's taken out the graphics card and tested it in his computers and he says its defunct. So he's put in a replacement terminal so I can connect the monitor and given me the old card back and set up board graphics. Seems to be ok so far. Cost me £10. So I'll see how it goes. I could get a new card for £19.98 and put that in if I'm not happy with it. I don't really want to spend much on it now as I bought the new memory and we are all into tablets now. I did miss the desktop today as I needed to do some online application that the ipad didn't support but I do use a desktop less now. I've got to buy a tablet for Grandma and a laptop for the nephew to start uni with in Sept.
I would like to go on a college course to learn how to build a computer but think that's still a while off as its difficult to commit when I've got the care problems in my family. I do enjoy tinkering though so do tell!
What am I to tinker with next ? Lol :j0
