PC saying in power save mode

My computer won't display through the monitor. The monitor isn't faulty as I connected it to another computer and the monitor works and I can get a start up screen displayed.
The computer has power to it. It is a Dell Dimension E521 running windows vista. I turn it on and I can hear it booting up and I can then hear the bit of music where its almost complete and you sign in but its not displaying on the screen.
I pressed a few buttons on the monitor just by chance and its got a message which said :- In power save mode. Press computer power button or any key on keyboard or move mouse.
I've done all those things and its still not displaying.
If I press the power button then it turns off completely. If I press any key or move the mouse nothing happens.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Many thanks.

Here's a link to the service manual
http://downloads.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_dimension_desktops/dimension-e521_service%20manual_en-us.pdf
Go to section "Advanced Troubleshooting". Do the lights tell you anything?0 -
Does it turn off *completely* when you press the power button, or just mostly? Try holding the power button for 4+ seconds which should take it to a complete off, so a full fresh reboot.0

It's the monitor that is in Power Save mode, not the PC.This is what worked for me:
1. Unplug All power.
2. Open the box.
3. Remove the video card. (I also removed the memory simms and re-inserted)
4. Re-insert video card.
5. Close box.
6. Power Up!
7. Go into the power saver options and set power saver to "NEVER" for monitor and hard disks.

Thanks. Yes I've done that many times over e last few days. It goes off fully even if I only touch it slightly but I have held it down also for 4+ seconds.
I'll try taking the video card out as suggested. Thanks.0 -

No the lights are ok - 1,2,3,4 not flashing etc.

What does a video card look like? I've opened up the machine but don't know which is the video card. There's no picture of it in the trouble shooting manual. Thanks0

If you look where you plug your monitor plugs into the back of the computer, there should be a card.0

There might not be a card if the mobo has on-board graphics. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
