Surely you first port of call is for him to contact his GP to find out why he hasn't replied to request for information. Is he under consultant care too?

What does your partner need help with? If he needs help with getting up, can you help him with that at the same time then the kids? In which way could he not look after himself? If he went from working to being totally unable to look after himself in just 6 months, his condition must be very severe. What treatment is he receiving from his consultant, as surely finding the right treatment for him should be his priority.

This might be controversial these days but can't mum leave out uniforms the night before and the kids get themselves up, dressed and cereal eaten before walking to school themself? This is what we did in primary school when mum worked days and dad was on night shift.

Difficult but not impossible, many many mothers do it day in day out.

By using breakfast/after school clubs, child minders etc but the OP is only just exploring the idea of returning to work so may not know what options are available to her locally, or may not even have access to such things.

Whilst I believe it's becoming more popular for schools to offer these services, by no means are they available at all schools and child minders often have waiting lists as they are limited in how many children they can mind.

  • Hi
I agree with FBaby - your OH needs to prioritise his treatment and the management of his condition. My OH was in lots of pain when first diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis but after a year of treatment he found great improvement and now works full time in a physical job. If your OH is still employed he needs to talk to his employers about his future with them. If the treatment works for him then he could continue to work.

Would you be happy to go off to work leaving your primary school aged children to get themselves up & dressed, make breakfast and then get themselves off to school alone?!

I know I certainly wouldn't! Mine we're at secondary school before they we're given such independence and responsibility.

But they wouldn't be alone - their father would be there.

The OP isn't just exploring the idea of going to work, she has been asking similar questions and getting similar answers since last November and she even said then that there was no reason for her to not go to work.

    I wouldn't know. I don't have a habit of searching people's posting history before replying to a post ;)

Well, maybe if I spent as much time on this forum as you appear to do I'd probably know everyone's life history intimately without having to search for it.
