If your not wishing to offer any advice on the situation then please dont comment as your comments and questions are immaterial to the situation athough i will answer .....

Day insurance was taken out to take it for its MOT
I wanst aware at the time of taking out the day insurance that a previous policy had been cancelled ( as already explained )

Now if you have no advice to offer other than a misguided opinion then please leave it to those who KNOW

That is not what you said. You said you worked on the car, it passed it MOT - so you sold it on Ebay.

You then decided to take the car to be cleaned and got day insurance - then crashed.

Day insurance to clean a car? Lorry driver with no sense of what time of day it is? If you wern't aware the previous insurance had been cancelled - why would you take out a new one?

You can see why it does not look good, surely?

Looking to find out what my next step will be :(

I had a car crash last Friday morning, i was waiting at a roundabout attempting to join it when an HGV ran into my rear he said he thought i had gone and couldn't see me in front of him, it was a low speed bump but its probably caused damage to the car that would make it uneconomical to repair.

Now to put you in the picture the car hadn't been insured for about 6 weeks prior as it had been cancelled and i was doing work on it for its MOT all that work had been done and the car had passed it MOT and been sold on ebay Thursday evening. I took out day insurance on the Friday morning in order to take the car to be cleaned before it was collected and paid for by the new owner, 20 mins later the bump happened.

Now my day insurance is saying they WON't handle my claim as my previous policy for the car was cancelled for none payment ( the last payment wasnt made on time ).

So eventually to my question, do i now have to handle this claim myself if so how ? ..... Do i contact the other drivers insurance company, will they even deal with me ?

Any help or advice would really help

Would you like to borrow my shovel?

    Why?

The OP should be doing what he is irrespective of whether or not his own insurance covers the car - when a third party is wholly to blame it's always best to claim off the third party (and of course you have no alternative if you have no cover for damage to your own car)

I mentioned day insurance on the day of the crash as it was relevant, i also had day insurance on the day of its MOT but this wasnt relevant to my situation, i have never used a car on the road without insurance and although i can clean a car outside i was taking it for a deep clean ( a valet if you will )

Sounds very suspect to be perfectly honest.

Wait for the phone interview. Ask them if they are using software to detect if your telling lies.

    Then panic if they are.

Have you tried contacting an accident management type company such as: http://www.easidrive.com/

There are quite a lot of companies out there who will take care of the process in a non fault accident.

Alternatively do you have "uninsured loss recovery" with, eg, house insurance, breakdown cover, Trade Union/Professional association membership, Fancy bank account/credit card

I know i've nothing to fear in any lie detecting software, as i've been 100% honest and true, i have my answers and as i am totally faultless and they have admitted liability i will let things progress as they will , if i get no joy soon i'll let a none fault claims management company take over
