Hi i moved into this rented house 6 months ago all seemed well landlady very nice ,sorted out carpets for whole house etc.
about month later she called to collect old furniture from prev tenants, asked about top up rent which was £50 week, i said that had no cash but if she gave me bank details i would sort out direct debit straight away.
to date i have never received any!
over xmas i contacted her about electrics in kitchen and other areas as missing socket plates and few wires was exposed so before i could fit an electric oven in i needed electric safety check and work done.
i called but went to mail box( not unusual as she has 100+ houses)
then finally her mail box was full, sent text messages asking for this check to be done, suggested i call engineer as xmas day fast approaching.. no reply.
so i then sent message asking for her reply within 7days or i would call engineer and get work done as cheaply as i could but deduct from rent top up i have to pay. i said if problem just let me know.. no reply. also kept enquiring about rent top up, how could i pay it etc. no reply
Now out of the blue a guy called round to the house, left a scribbled note saying he had called numerous times and wanted to discuss rent left a phone number. note was not addressed to me or anyone.
called him but no reply just went to voice mail.
this was few weeks ago.. since lost number/note
last night he called round again.. spoke to my daughter rather rudely saying he had called me and been to house lots of times and that he was new landlord.. and soon there was going to be another one who was not as nice and there would be trouble if i didn't call!!
left no number.. didn't ask for me by name.
questions i have is do you think he is a bogus caller?
wouldn't i receive official letter?
wouldn't i have confirmation from housing benefit?
what should i do?
i know he has never called my phone which number has been same for 2 years or called previously to that a few weeks ago as im always in if not someone else is.
really worried about this.
cannot contact landlady as now lost her number. im on that home choice scheme so deposit was paid by council and tenancy is for 12 months by that scheme.
thanks
sorry its a long post

oops forgot to say no longer have his number now, im a terrible cleaner.0

I would not have anything to do with this guy until you get some evidence that he is the landlord. He could be an imposter - stranger things have happened. If the council paid your deposit, surely they can help you track down the orginal landlady?0
-
sorry can anyone see this thread?0
-
It's simple. Let him show you proof that he is the landlord, also get him to give you the old landlady's contact details to verify.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

thanks, yes im worrying incase he is an imposter as he has never mentioned me by name and tenancy is in land ladys name.
if or when he comes back i wont tell him my details unless he can show and provide proof of previous landlady and proof of who the hell he is.
just surprised if she has sold, she certainly dont need the money.0 -
HI he came round again this week, i answered the door and he claimed to be landlady husband.. he said he had sent lots messages/called rd lots of times etc.. all lies. i said that i had recieved nothing official through the post and he told me i had 2 weeks to pay arreas or 2 weeks to move out.
i said im not answering anything until i recieve official letter, he said fine then friday you wil get your letter and then you will have 2 weeks to move out.
i said how is this my fault when not heard a thing from landlady..
but no letter as of yet.
really worried now as not sure what to do.. im on homebond scheme so will be calling housing benefit0 -

do you think he can evict me in 2weeks?
Hi Sultry
Having just read your thread, i have no real advice to offer. I just want to say it all sounds very suspect to me and im sure he cant evict you in 2 weeks....try and find out the number of your landlady and give her a call, if it turns out that this bloke is her husband i would tell her what hes said ect.
The main thing is to find out if your landlady still owns the property and then try to locate her.
Im sorry i cant help more.0 -
Just another thought, you say your landlady has 100+ properties? do you know where they are? do any of your friends/neighbours live in one? could you possibly obtain her number that way?
She cant have just vanished!!0 -
