Please urgent help with 'illegal' car sold by garage

First of all, officially reject the car.
Take pictures of what ever is relevant, exhaust, battery, etc.
Get the car back to the garage and hand them the keys and a letter stating that you are rejecting the car and list the relevant problems and reasons. It's clear it's not fit for the reason it was bought for.
Also include in the letter that you are after a full refund within x amount of days, have taken pictures of problem areas and will be going to hire a car until the money is paid back and pursue them for the cost of the hire car (whether you actually get one or not is irrelevant at this stage - they might see it as extra costs at a later stage).
Or, as above. Swallow the loss of £250 and walk away (but no doubt they'll try and chip you more for the latest problem), but bear in mind you could of had a decent hire car for a week at the £250 loss. It'd of been less hassle walking up to a stranger and giving them the money, so try to fight for your money back.
My advice would be to try to put up a bit of a fight to get back the full amount, but then that's me ....
Good luck and I hope you get it resolved quickly and to how you want :beer:0 -
All of this is fine but I would not hire a car unless it is guaranteed that you can get the cost back. Otherwise you are spending money that might not be recovered.diesel_dog wrote: »First of all, officially reject the car.

That's a fair point and one for the OP to consider but at this stage it's more of a blag, if that makes sense?0
-
I see what you are getting at but given that the OP doesnt seem to be that 'assertive' (i.e. they don't seem to have pushed back much) then just getting the money back would be a good result without incurring more expense.
If there is a tank of fuel in it then maybe add that to the 'total' as well but I wouldn't push it much more than that.0 -
Adding the price of a tank of fuel to it would be just daft

Hi Guys
I’m going to get some flack from you all for saying this but first I'd justlike to say i was very assertive in trying to get the money back and things seemed to be getting somewhere with getting all but £250
I’ve now found out my daughter has taken leave of her senses and I’m totallydisgusted and disappointed by what she has gone and done and now realise thereis just no trying to help and advise some people, and she's one of them, and i believe due to her stupidity she stands nowhere in getting anything back.
This is where I'll get the flack, as i told you guys I'd been crying and now i feel sick over all this BUT I have decided not to bother with it, i tried to help/advised her BEFORE she went out to get a car, (I'd advised her to take someone who knows about cars AA, RAC, mechanic or wait for me to finish work that day, but no. I tried to help her when things went wrong too) daughter got herself into this mess, she can get herself out of it!
Anything you guys say now won't make me feel any worse than I do.

You are prepared to write off 2k over the cost of filing some paperwork and opening a small claims case against the dealer?
Even the cost of a letter from a solicitor to the dealer would get their attention and probably some action as a result.0 -
Sorry KFT, i re-read my last post but i didn't say how my daughter took leave of her senses (apart from getting the car in the first place).
She went back and agreed on them giving her £300 to get the car fixed herself so i'm now sure this refund becomes invalid, im exasperated by the whole situation, got headache, feeling sick but no longer crying, i hold my hands up to her idiocy.
Now if someone would like to tell me we still stand somewhere with this after what daughter done i will fight tooth and nail.Mortgage Jan 2007, 60000
