I'm 29 (30 in a couple of weeks!) and I owe just under £12k. That's not including my student loan, since I don't consider that to be a bad debt decision.

If you don't feel quite ready to write down how much you owe, you could start with a Statement of Affairs (SoA, see the post on the front page entitled 'first time posters' or similar). Tell us how much you've got coming in and where it all goes, and we can try to help you find a few extra quid every month :)

    Thankyouandenjoy...

Thats a really nice story, you sound really happy in your house with your family!!! :T :T

Can I ask, what are the two numbers? Is it what you owed at the start and then what you owe now?!!?

Your stock investment looks like a nice little nest egg - would you mind telling me how you amassed such a valuable portfolio of stocks? Say if thats too nosey of me...

    Hello

Yeah, the first number is my starting debt (when i decided to do somethin about it) and the second value is debt as of today. Im hoping to be debt + mortgage free in 4 1/2 years

With reference to the stock investment, it is a S.A.Y.E scheme run through work. I was lucky enough to acquire shares at approx 4/10ths of what the value is now (started purchase 4years ago). Its 99.9% risk free, the minimum i stand to walk away with is £16.5k (cash) however shares are currently worth £33.5 k so more than doubled my original £15k investment.

When i started the S.A.Y.E scheme, i knew little about stock/share investments; since then i have undertaken 'fantasy trading' and am feeling more and more confident about taking further risks (albeit when we are completely debt free :D )

Yeah it's brilliant, and a great comfort to be able to talk about it with people who know what you mean. All the advice here is fantastic. :T

I'm £38.000 (2 loans and lots of cards) in debt. I'm still able to pay all the payments for now. (just) and am Snowballing my payments, throwing all I can at them, and trying to be very money savvy. They are coming down SLOWLY, but hey! down is better than UP right? Light bulb moment - Jan 2007
  • I'm 39!!!!!
Decided I want a life when my DD an DS leave home and not to be working full time to pay off huge debts. I'm glad I found this site and all the great people within to advise. I am also glad that when I was in my early 20's (oh I sound old now don't I?) this debt lifestyle wasn't in your face like it is now students still got grants and loans and credit cards weren't so available at a click of a button. There is no need to be ashamed, although debt is our own fault it doesn't help that money is thrust in your face everywhere you turn.
My debt is about £5000 plus a morgage. Oh I forgot I've a car loan as well rever ending one (5 years) which I pay £200 a month
I was also going to say to you Here Goes (which I have read many times in these threads) it doesn't matter how much debt you have, if you can't afford to repay it it's too much so don't be ashamed.
