shop staff.

Picture the scene, you and your partner are visiting a retail park the ones that have electrical outlets furniture ones etc. You enter the shops and before the doors close behind you the shop staff are in your face offering help and when you walk round the shop and pass through various departments you get approached again and again. I'm pretty sure they have sale targets and commission to earn but it does put people off and it stops me from buying in these shops.

Shop Assistant - the job title gives it away. They work in shops and assist people. If your shy stay home and use the internet.

    Shop assistant, not customer harasser.
Stay at home and shop in the Internet? Are for actually for real? Op had a valid point. It's perfectly reasonable expectation to be able to physically examine goods without being pressured, in fact most people seem to prefer it.

What gets me is that they seem to have an uncanny knack for knowing when you do want some assistance and chose that particular day to ignore you. If you're just browsing, on the other hand, they won't leave you alone.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

That's very true. It's so frustrating when you say you're just looking and they still keep coming up to you.

If they're going to approach me I'd prefer it if they just said, "Let me know if you need any help." I can't stand pushy sales assistants and if they're too bad it just makes me want to get out of there as soon as possible.

It IS frustrating, yes. However they are generally doing what they have been told they must do. Don't get frustrated with them - I bet most of them would rather not have to accost customers every two seconds.

A while back, I was working in a gastropub in the absence of any other jobs being forthcoming. The owners used to insist that we went and checked on every customer whilst they were eating their main course. This applied even if they only had a couple of mouthfuls left on their plate. I used to absolutely HATE doing this, as most people weren't exactly pleased to have their meal interrupted by a member of staff checking that it was ok. Some would be polite, but some would be downright unpleasant about having their conversation interrupted, and take it out on me personally. It wasn't my fault, it was the orders of the management, but its always the front of house staff who have to take the flak.

Personally, I never have a problem saying "I'm just looking thanks".

Picture the scene: You are a single female entering any shop .... nobody looks up, nobody cares, nobody offers to help you. If you want to solve the problem, simply enter the premises completely separately.

Picture the scene: You're doing a low paid job in an out of town big shed, you get lots of advice and info on managing your finances and life because you're a member of MSE, but your biggest aggravation is the sour faced whingeing customers you have to be polite to.

If lots of people are shy. The shop will loose sales.

If the shop alters there tack, more shy people will enter and result in more sales.

    They want your custom

I definitely hate this too, I don't mind a few 'would you like some help/advice?' and a hello/goodbye, but it does make we want to leave ASAP if the staff are circling around you when looking and continually questioning you.

Out of curiosity, does anyone else mind the 'Is your meal OK' when you are half way through a meal?
