Is OP moaning about the SAME person approaching them, or multiple people who couldn't possibly know that they had already been approached?
I must admit though, I have sometimes made the mistake of asking the same customer twice, because if the person just says no, I don't tend to remember what they look like, and if they move and I'm circulating, I don't tend to remember which of the 50 middle aged men with dark hair, glasses and a dull jacket I've spoken to already.0 -
I dont mind it as I know they have been pushed to ask if we need any help, i just politely say "Im fine thanks ".0

As a retail worker i usually just smile and go about my business but if i see a customer looking a bit lost or loitering around an aisle for more than a few minutes i'll go and ask if they need any help, but as a customer i really want to be left alone, if i ever do need help i usually go staff hunting and give it the "excuse me, could you...."A man's own hand is most to be trusted0

I went into Curry's the other day to look at a Nikon camera. Walked up and down the display for about 10 minutes holding all of the different ones to see which I liked best. A few assistants about but no one bothered to come and see if I was OK or to offer help or advice.
I didn't buy from them because they couldn't be bothered.
Maybe it was because I was wearing my joggers and I didn't look like I could afford one? Oh well, Amazon 1 Currys 00 -

Just to play devils advocate, perhaps they were trying not to harass you and would have been bothered to help had you been bothered to ask?
Personally I prefer to be left alone unless I ask for help, I don't like the ones that approach you as soon as you walk in. However I have no objection if someone comes across after a few minutes and says something along the lines of "my names xxxx, if you need any help, i'll be just over there/give me a shout".
Its not presumptuous or pushy but neither is it alienating those who do need help. IMO its a reasonable middle ground for both sides while adding a friendly face/name to their time in store and a good starter for rapport building. You keep using that word. My advice? Don't!0 -
I've found that most assistants in Currys, locally, will ask if we need help and then say something like 'Let me know if you need help, then'.
Most are pleasant and not intrusive.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Why not? Each and every viewpoint is as valid as the last given theres no right or wrong.
Had to laugh at your post offering advice after my post just saying if i need help, i'm perfectly capable of asking for it. So thank you for the giggle. Was the irony intentional? Or a happy coincidence? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
