This thread is about the Targa from Lidl's, not the Dell.

I am sure there will be a thread relating to the Dell somewhere if people wish to discuss it.

Any .. so called .. " petty arguments " all relate to the Dell.

So no need to close this thread, as you suggest.

Petty relating to what is the best deal. There really is no contest here.
    Cheers,

Personally, I wouldn't touch Dell with a 10-foot barge pole, but that's just my experience.

I've worked as an IT Tutor for 4years and they've had Dell's at every centre so far. I can guarantee that at least once a fortnight there will be problems and Dell haven't wanted to know. You may have been lucky, and I'm pleased if you have.

I posted the offer as it seemed a good price for someone looking to buy their first PC or one for their kids if they're going to uni....always easy to upgrade at a later date if it's a CPU than a laptop...

I hope you found it useful - don't just go for a name you recognise, go for one you can trust...

But no 3 Year warranty, again.

Some people like the assurance of a 3 year warranty.;)

A 3 year warranty in the pc world these days is pretty much useless.

The parts go out of date so quick so personally id rather have the money in my pocket rather then paying extra for that.
  • Hi guys, in my opinion this isnt exactly a bad piece of kit for, lets say, a novice PC user or someone that just wants it for browsing the net and writing documents. However i feel this PC would be pretty much useless for anything more than that for instance games of any sort etc.

The hardware in it is all very dated and the CPU alone is worth about £15 now i think, check https://www.novatech.co.uk if u like (You might want to add that site as a bookmark, probably one of the best computer dealers around).

Some of the previous systems from Lidl that were more in the price range of around £800 were very very good sounding, but this is nowhere near the specs of those, hence the price i suppose.

And as for Dell, well i wouldnt bother with them, unless you want to pay shed loads for replacement parts because they like to 'modify' all they're hardware so that standard versions dont fit, so you have to purchase from them.

As i mentioned earlier, check out https://www.novatech.co.uk They have very good systems for very cheap, as well as extremely cheap parts so that the more adventurous souls out there could build your own for a fraction of the price of a pre-built.

Goodluck everyone, if you need any technical help or walkthroughs for building your own system feel free to ask me, goto https://www.freewebs.com/rsrepairs and drop me a message. (Copy and paste the link instead of clicking it)

    Over and out!

<sarcasm>Well, I was tempted with this offer, but seeing as the highly respected member Sir Choice, with one post, who mentioned a banned link, recommended Novatech twice in one post, obviously I am going to drop all intention of going to Lidl and go to novatech instead! I'm sure that the poster has no vested interest in this web site at all.</sarcasm>

Not true, if it goes wrong within the 3 years, that is down to the seller/maker to sort out, or issue a full refund.

The 3 year warranty is included in the price anyway, not at extra cost like the Dell's.;)

If it went wrong wihtin three years due to being faulty then I'd argue that for what it cost it wasn't of reasonable quality and claim a refund under SOGA.

Great machine if your kids don't mind having an out of date PC and aren't really bothered about the fact they have nothing to actually look at! Add another £100+ for a monitor and this machine starts to look very dated and massively overpriced.
Dell or not this machine is NOT a bargain. And I defy anyone to build their own machine with a decent spec for £200! £10 for a keyboard, mouse AND card reader????
Don't argue - just buy the Dell !!!!!! - it's a bargain, despite what any IT tutors might tell you.

I'll leave it to the experts to pull it apart ....

    Let's know your thoughts

This to me means here's a deal I've seen, can anyone do any better? The Dell deal is better! The only thing the Lidl deal has really going for it is the 3 year warranty, which is largely irrelevant as a PC would be highly unlikely to fail within this time and, IMHO, you'd be far better off going for the better spec.

Also, anyone who would rather buy in a shop rather than mail order has got things the wrong way round. If you buy mail order then the distance selling regs protect you, so you've got 10 days to try out your purchase at home and you're free to change your mind.
