Maestro Card not accepted

I have first trust, Halifax and Santander accounts and the customer service from the first trust is a lot better then the other 2 - my local branch phones me if a debit card transaction will put my account overdrawn, if I have to deposit a cheque or take out more money than the ATM they have a local branch (First Trust & Ulster are the only banks left in my town) and the nearest Santander is 12 mile away and the nearest halifix is 20 mile away.
Although I use halifax and Santander to get rewards and interest my everyday account (which i use for withdrawing money, debot card transactions etc) is still First Trust.
The other advantage of first trust is that withdrawals are free from AIB machines in the South - which to me is the major reason i use this acccount
Santander is only 3% interest if you have over £3,000 - if you have under £1,000 its zero plus there is a £2 monthly charge (which if you don't have many direct debits the cashback may not cancel out). The santander 123 account can actually cost you money if you don't maintain it properly.
0.25% interest is better than a £2 fee.
Personally, I like having a local bank.
Good points. I have little or no personal interaction with my bank. If I want an overdraft I can do it online, I can take out as much as I usually need from an ATM, and cheques are on the way out.
For me 0.25% interest really isn't better than £2 fee as I have more than £3,000 and the cash back more than pays the fee.
I like the bank paying me for my money. If all you are doing is using your bank as a means to debit and credit funds, with nothing left at the end of the month then I can see how the interest rate won't matter.
Oh and my First Direct account paid £125 to switch, and pays 8% interest in a regular saver.
The local banks are closing branches all the time, First Trust have been trying to sell up for ages. I doubt they’ll be around forever.0 -

They do take Maestro OK at the ordinary tills, by the way.0 -

That's what Santander are no doubt 'banking on'
I wonder how long it will be till they either up the £2 fee or reduce the interest that can be earned? When they think they have seduced enough people into it?;)0 -

When they do that I'll simply close the account down!
I made £2.11 in cashback last months as the only bills I have to add to it is my phone and sky tV(which hopefully I will be cancelling soon!)
3% interest is also only 2.4% net, and can be beaten my ISA's if you have any reamining ISA allowance.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -

They also take Maestro at the ordinary tills too!
Strange that they accept them in one part of the store but not in another........unless the photographic department is a separate franchise?0 -
Massive amounts of advertising for Maestro on the hoardings of the Champions League semi-final tonight.
Probably a bit pointless seeing as it isn't accepted anywhere.0 -

I have put an ISA into Santander as well (3% over 2 yrs if you have a 123 account):)
Sorry Pepper33, we're going off-topic again!;)0 -
Seems to be differing opinions all over. I have complained to Danske, maybe if enough complain they will sort it out.0
