Maestro Card not accepted

I have just moved to the Danske Bank, and I have found that I cannot get a debit card unless it is maestro which has not been accepted by a lot of online traders. Danske Bank say i will have to apply for a credit card, but I don't want one.
Is there anyone knows if they are going to change to VISA/MASTERCARD, or something that I can use worldwide.

So then you have to open another a/c, not good business for a bank that is hoping to do well here. I have just changed banks. What bank does Visa/Debit? A good one....0

It's not a new bank, it's just the Northern under new management, didn't you know?
Anyway you have better consumer protection if you buy things with a credit card, so it's probably worth having one.
Halifax and Santander do Visa Debit.0 -
Nationwide is Visa debit as well0

I have had a few probs with my Danske maestro card.
It wouldnt work in my local Tesco petrol station for weeks and a few other local shops as well.Reported it to Danske in branch and nobody could explain what the problem was.
Haven't had any probs recently though,touch wood!!!:j0 -

Yes of course I did, but I have a low credit rating, and would not get a credit card. Just left the Nationwide, as they were taking charges out of my account, whenever I was sick and on benefits, very unfair.0
