Maestro Card not accepted

I have just moved to the Danske Bank, and I have found that I cannot get a debit card unless it is maestro which has not been accepted by a lot of online traders. Danske Bank say i will have to apply for a credit card, but I don't want one.
Is there anyone knows if they are going to change to VISA/MASTERCARD, or something that I can use worldwide.

So then you have to open another a/c, not good business for a bank that is hoping to do well here. I have just changed banks. What bank does Visa/Debit? A good one....

It's not a new bank, it's just the Northern under new management, didn't you know?

Anyway you have better consumer protection if you buy things with a credit card, so it's probably worth having one.

Halifax and Santander do Visa Debit.

Why not? It won't bite you and, as Jeffer has pointed out, it might do you some good.

Yes of course I did, but I have a low credit rating, and would not get a credit card. Just left the Nationwide, as they were taking charges out of my account, whenever I was sick and on benefits, very unfair.
