I have had a few probs with my Danske maestro card.
It wouldnt work in my local Tesco petrol station for weeks and a few other local shops as well.Reported it to Danske in branch and nobody could explain what the problem was.
    Haven't had any probs recently though,touch wood!!!:j

I didn't have any trouble except whenever I went to buy plants from Thompson and Morgan, and they refused my card, saying that they don't use Masetro any longer....

It is old fashioned and VISA/MASTERCARD are the big boys now

From http://www.maestrocard.com/uk/about/index.html: "Maestro is the debit card from MasterCard"

Why won't some places accept it then?

Really not good going into a shop or online, whenever they don't have the maestrocard sign....

Likewise with my [STRIKE]Northern[/STRIKE] Danske Maestro card - I've never had any problems with it.

OP - Apart from the one retailer you've mentioned, who else has refused your card? If a shop or website didn't want to take my money (via a Maestro card), I'd quickly find one that did.

It's not the fault of the maestro card, simply some backward company has some stupid setup not to accept them. Why they have decided to accept only VISA or Mastercard simply beggars believe.

Choose a better company and forget about trying to get another card, it's not worth the hassle. In over 10 years I've never once had a problem with Maestro.

I've never had a maestro card refused, and I only use cards.

There are two main card processors, Visa and Mastercard (who operate Maestro). It is very unusual for a retailer to take one and not the other. It is only American Express that I have found not to be accepted on occasion.

Well as I said, some of the online websites, won't take it, and yesterday in Sainsbury's it took it eventually after 3 goes.
Anyway if they won't take it, they won't get my business.

Seriously but why in 2013 does anyone (outside of business) use Danske, Bank of Ireland, First Trust or Ulster Bank. Their charges are ridiculous, I.T is antiquated and savings rates abysmal.

Move bank. You can get a decent debit card, with contactless payment and a decent credit interest rate and low overdraft charges from and big bank.

Maybe its the easy access savings account which was paying 3% until last month when it reduced to 2.5% - that along with my Santander 123 giving 3% is helping me manage my easy access savings
