Just get on with it and Insure yourself for SDP& Commuting if you're so confident.

Should you have a problem following a claim I would suggest you register under a different user name as otherwise the posters who are advising you will just end up laughing

its not a question of what im going to get on and do - its a question of whether the wording is ambiguous - and i think we can all agree it is

if the insurance company who offers the cheapest quote with class 1 insist that i need business class 1 then that is what i will get - but that doesnt mean the wording could not be improved to remove any ambiguity

This thread is so frustrating to read. Op, you are constantly talking about site A and site B, if it was a single place of work you wouldn't have to specify 2 sites in your example. There is no ambiguity, you need class 1.

there is ambiguity for the reasons previously outlined

yes two sites is two sites but the phrase is "commute to a single place of work" and that is what i do each day i go to work

business class 1 raises the price of my quotes by about £40 so i must be considered a greater risk in requiring it

but can anyone actually explain where the greater risk from commuting 5 miles to location A on monday and commuting 5 miles to location B on tuesday comes from ?

Perhaps because you work as/describe yourself as a driver (seen as high risk in insurance terms).

then that should affect the premium - but i dont see why commuting to two locations equidistant from my home should

Can't you ask the insurer concerned then? It's all getting a bit tedious saying the same things to you over and over again.

As a driver they are not liable (Except for RTA) for claims should you company ask you to drive some colleagues in connection with the business under an SDP & commuting policy.

Should you take out Class One business use there's a potential for them to end up picking up claims for you driving colleagues around which is one of the reasons drivers often pay a loaded premium.

As you discovered from your other thread, the premiums in general for drivers are often loaded over say an office worker as many Insurers find drivers are more likely to have an accident.

As you work for a Health Authority, I'm really surprised they've not asked to see sight of your Certificate of Insurance at least once a year. As an employer they potentially could be prosecuted should you have an accident while driving your own car to different places of work. Large Companies / Government Departments are usually very hot on this as they understand their responsibilities under H&S laws to check certificates on a regular basis. Or is it a case that they have requested that you do have Class One Business Use and you don't believe you need it (I think we've all got the message that you don't believe you need it)

and something else from the confused website with regards to commuting
And if the vehicle is being used in connection with work beyond simply commuting, then the insured will require a level of business cover:

there is nothing in how that is phrased that would suggest to me that i need business cover

i dont do anything beyond commuting in regards to my employment

just spoke to an insurance company through the online messaging option and had this responce:

"SD+P with commuting is one place of work in your day, the journey there and back, if you are going to more than 1 place of work in a day, you will need to have personnal business use."

"If it is one place one day, then another place the next day, you will be covered on SD+P with Commuting."

i thyen asked her about a situation where youve never had a meeting at any other location other than where you work - but the company decides to have a meeting in a hotel say at 7pm after work

if you go to work then drive to the meeting you will not be covered. However if you had a day off and drove to the meeting you would be covered

Ask him / her to confirm that in writing which I doubt they will as the person has probably taken a flyer at the answer

she said it was their company policy. i asked if that was standard across the industry and she said she could only speak for her company

If that's the case she should have no problem confirming what she told you in writing.

I repeat, I doubt she will confirm exactly what she told you in writing

    Oh hang on a minute...

as i said earlier i spoke to one insurance comapny rep who said i could go to more than one work location with sdp&c so long as i didnt go to more than one location per day. I spoke to someone else the next day from the same company and they said the opposite

now if people who work at these places are unsure - what chance has the average person got?
